Nice to see another '90s Opel
Hi Robsey, yes it is. The red one is a G reg Nova SR 1.3.

There's also another Nova just visible behind the red Cav SRi (a gold one).

Re: Hello From Turkey

Selamlar, Vectra'nız temiz görünüyor. Biraz paslanma gayet normal. :scratch 270bhp ...

Re: X20XEV head gasket choice

Thanks for the responses chaps. I've had Victor Reinz in the past for a C20LET and was happy with it. I'll take a look at the links given, thanks. I'm looking forward to getting the XEV performing how most would've expected it to. Far too many slate them and I think it's easier and doable than most ...

Re: X20XEV head gasket choice

Those are a couple I've come across among other cheaper brands, and considered those as 1st choice at the moment, I'd assume they'd be able to an up in power too.

Thanks again Robsey (I'm starting to wonder if you're the only one replying on here  )

Re: temp gauge reading high

It's a tricky one to call but I'd have to side with there being an issue somewhere. Not necessarily an issue that is major but something which isn't quite right (I agree with Robsey that if it were bad it'd have blown up by now). All the Cavalier's we've had in the family have peaked at what looks l...

X20XEV head gasket choice

Hi all, I've not had much luck with the forum search and haven't found much on this topic hence this thread. Unfortunately, the Cav suffered a possible overheating and blew the head gasket between cylinder 1 & 2. It was due to get a new timing belt, rollers, tensioner & water pump (which I p...

Re: Camshaft sensor variances

Wiring for the cam sensor was replaced shortly before the car was taken off the road which included a new sensor. If I remember correctly the code it flashed was 92 (or was it 93... one of those 2 lol). I'll have to flash the codes again just to be sure. On the subject of codes etc, are there any di...

Re: Camshaft sensor variances

I bought the correct one off ebay for £9. The one I had fitted prior had the Siemens 5wk9 055 2 stamped on it, but when I removed the sensor it also had 5wk9 0552 4 printed, which matches the one purchased. Unfortunately, the EML is still on despite the new sensor, so something else must be causing ...

Re: Camshaft sensor variances

This is why it's so confusing. The only other explanation is that the modified wiring kits are deliberately different plug types as obviously the old style was causing infamous issues, so these updated designs are a different type and therefore not found in the EPC as it wouldn't be standard, I assu...

Re: Camshaft sensor variances

Hi Robsey, Thanks for the info. Having checked the part number you gave they all show as the wrong plug type. I did look deeper into the Siemens reference and it seems the 5wk9 055 2 & 5wk9 055 4 are the same. They do show equivalent GM part numbers as 93171450 and 9012039. Looks like I'll be tr...

Camshaft sensor variances

After many years of the Cavalier being out of commission... I've decided to revive it. After 4 years of sitting, I started it up (after oil change and engine prep of course). It wouldn't be an XEV Ecotec if it didn't have the camshaft sensor warning show up :D A while before it came off the road, I ...

Thanks for the reply,

I see... I wasn't aware they had a slow mode. It didn't look like it was in very good condition as the block was in half :?

Cooling fan

2 Questions: Firstly, anyone used an aftermarket slim fan on their Cav in place of the standard fan? Would you rate it better than the original? Secondly, the fan on the 2.0 Ecotec has 2 connectors one of which has a white block with a spring on it. Is there any reason there is a spring/coil on it, ...

The hoses in the engine bay were recently replaced as they were leaking too. The metal pipes don't look too great though... Will need to be replaced soon.

Cheers Robsey,

Great, if they are that size then I have a length of that hose already. They'll be removed today and replaced.

Fuel Lines

So after spending many hours on the Cavalier today, changing oil, filter, lubricating cylinders & cams etc etc I finally got to turn it over and it started (after a good 30 secs of cranking on the 2nd attempt), but it ran but very rough. Weirdly, giving it some throttle made it drop revs while i...

Z20LET to X20XEV straight swap parts?

Been looking at a ton of threads from all sorts of places about doing some basic mods to the X20XEV once it's back on the road. I've seen people mention Z'LET parts being straight swap but there's a lot of vague responses, and I need to know if this is a definite parts bin to help get the XEV perfor...

Legend!

Looking at the orientation of the photo... Top hose goes to the furthest connection on the fuel rail and bottom hose goes to the nearest connection of the fuel rail.

Fuel send & return pipes to fuel rail.

So I recently ditched the union fitting fuel pipes on the X20XEV as they cracked sitting around, and buying a new set was ridiculously expensive, so I switched to standard push fit fuel hoses onto barbed connections that fit on to the fuel rail. Unfortunately, I made a schoolboy error and removed th...

Flywheel identification help

Morning all, I purchased two clutches off eBay which were an absolute bargain, brand new old stock. While they showed up as compatible on the checker, I questioned the seller; they both said that these clutches are for a recessed flywheel. Not knowing what flywheel is fitted in the Cav I went to hav...

Fuel rail feed and return fuel hose

In the efforts to resurrect the Cav, I tried starting it today after 3 years (yes I turned engine over by hand after dropping some oil into the cylinders and removed the coil pack lead to allow priming of oil around engine during initial crank). I came across an immediate issue which was the fuel fe...
