Re: Bit Of A Balls Up...
I must admit I never use the jack supplied, and I wouldn't in the situation where I had a puncture. I bought a scissor jack which I keep in the boot for a puncture situation, it will involve kneeling on the ground to position it but is much better. For work at home the trolley jack is the way to go,...

When you said 'older' I thought you meant older! (as in really old)

Re: Top Gear
I remember a guy where I worked bought a saloon shortly after they were released, and looking around it I was mightily impressed with the fit and 'flushness' of the body panels - far better that anything else in our car park! and for a twenty odd year old design they still look good today!

Re: Fuel Ecconomy / Ticking Engine
On mine it seems that the injectors make most of the noise up front! Definately worth checking fuel pipes - they go hard after this length of time, worse one I found was the covered one on the fuel pump. I replaced mine with a genuine Vauxhall pipe which did exactly the same after about 3 years! You...

Re: Hey all
Hi, A good choice of model (might be biased because I have one!) they make great long distance cruisers with that wide ratio box.
My exhaust apart from the rear box is original (1990) Sections can be picked up on ebay for bargain prices!
Enjoy

Re: Ventilation Control Panel Lights
To be quite honest I dont know when they packed up, its just that while travelling recently in total darkness I realised I couldn't see the controls!

Re: Winter-proofing
I run a small heater with a circulating fan (mains) - keeps the chill off the air and the circulation going plus a maintenance battery charger.
I also installed many years ago a Kenlowe engine pre heater and have them fitted to all my vehicles. A hot engine from the start - highly recommended!

Ventilation Control Panel Lights
I seem to have an unlit ventilation control panel, not sure how many lamps light this area (probably only one) but it's burnt out!
Are they easy (ish) to get to for replacement?

Material On 'A Post'
Ever since last years hot holiday to France the material has started to come un stuck from the 'A' posts both sides. It looks a simple job to stick it back but as it is very 'on show' I would prefer to remove the plastic sections to gain better access and do it on the bench. Does anyone know how the...

Re: Idle Mixture
Well, just returned from a long weekend in the New Forest covering some 430 miles of mixed roads and am pleased to report the consumption has returned to its old self, returning 43 mpg overall. I am not convinced this is totally down to me having a go at the mixture screw but think I may have had so...

Re: Idle Mixture
Update on the mixture screw. I prised out the anti tamper plug to find a large (10mm) brass slotted screw - gave it 2 turns clockwise with my Gunson up the exhaust, and it made it richer! I finally settled on 1 turn anticlock - which definately leaned it off, but the Gunson is not very good at these...

Re: Idle Mixture
Thanks, it gives me a good starting direction! Do you know if there is much adjustment available? I ask because my Gunson tester is not that responsive and I think I might have to go to my Friendly MOT man and it would be nice to know if there is a 'pot' in there or a 'multi turn type pot' and start...

Idle Mixture
My 2.0i CD 8 valve passed the MOT but only just on mixture. It has always been very economical returning 40+ to the gallon. Recently this had dipped below that figure which was confirmed by the emisions result! The Haynes manual refers to setting the mixture (no cat) by adjusting the tamper proof sc...

Knowing what an inconvenince a broken cable can be, and holidaying to France fairly often, I carry one in the boot! Got it off eBay, only about £6 - post free! and its quinton hazell!
