Re: It's that time, finally...

Sadly, the TD went to the great Scrappy in the Sky yesterday, with the 1.8 going in about an hours time. After years of waiting, it never got the chance it deserved to be fixed up properly, developing more problems than anticipated. The 1.8 was in better nick, but just seems no-one wants them these ...

Re: It's that time, finally...

Well, the 2.0 has been sold to James, and it's off to a good home, happy with that. As for the other two... Last chance if anyone wants one! Otherwise they'll be taking that sad final trip to the scrappy... a sad ending for the 1.7TD at the very least. Has most of the CD package left, engine is pukk...

Re: It's that time, finally...

Hah! I'm pretty sure I'll be the one doing most of the cooking anyhow, I'll be a house husband for the first 4-6 months until I get the right paperwork to be able to look for a job. But thank you, I'm sure it'll be interesting but good getting to grips out there, I've got my hands full just trying t...

It's that time, finally...

Hey all, not been very active for a while now. Mostly due to work, some of it tiredness and being lazy, but a large chunk of it has been down something rather big changing in my life... If all goes well on Wednesday (21st), I'm going to be getting a visa which enables me to go to the states and get ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Part of me is now just hoping I can find a place that does loom rewires to either make a new one, or at worst redo the old one... I'm not thrilled at the prospect of doing it all myself at this point...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

The point about the ECU is more that I can't get anything in the area to undo the nuts, and the loom tail is so tight against it that I can't get the box out physically without undoing it, but the tightness means that even unclipping the cable, I can't get the connector clear enough for that to happ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Well, sod that. It seems that the ECU on the 2.0i model is the part they started with, then decided to build the rest of the car around. The Haynes Big Book of Lies™ states that there are three screws (wrong) holding it in (they're nuts), and that one it's undone it'll simply drop out (assuming the ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Well, it's not the TPS, not that I thought it would be. So, we're going deep now... going to visually inspect the ECU itself, and check all components are functioning and not age knackered. This'll involve digging it out and making sure all is well with the board itself... pics will follow, maybe th...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

So, I managed to kinda sort the issue somewhat... I got the AFM out of the car and opened up eventually... a lot of cutting silicone seal and trying not to slice up fingers in the process. Eventually though I had it open, and thus the innards were exposed for all to see... https://i.imgur.com/byZ9gT...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

I'm wary saying this, but I think we've bloody got it! After a short trip home from work today, just long enough to get the engine warmed and doing the low RPM thing, I parked up, switched off and unplugged the AFM. First restart conked out, but the second ran smoothly, and because I know my base id...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

While I haven't tried it again recently, pulling the AFM out of the loop when running kills the engine, haven't tried running without it disconnected from the start. I'll give that a go and see what happens after work.

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Right, just a quick one, back in the right thread (maybe, I seem to be in several systems at any one given time). I've tried all sorts... new FPR, new injectors, plugs, CTS, leaning ground straps, etc. BUT... I recently saw a few videos on how to overhaul and fix the Bosch AFMs that seem to be fitte...

Re: Cavalier 2.0 Petrol, C20NE, Running Problem

Well, the solution eludes me once again... after injuring myself contorting my fingers to get access to the FPR without disconnecting anything else, I had it finally removed, hoses replaced and ready to go back in... until I discovered my halfwit self had managed to put the back hose on the wrong wa...

Re: Cavalier 2.0 Petrol, C20NE, Running Problem

Well, not been as active as I used to be, but I've still been tinkering with the car and HOPEFULLY (and I always say that shortly before I'm disappointed) I've traced the issue to the fuel pressure reg. Given the damn ting is over fueling at idle but apparently fine when under power, it would appear...

Re: DIN type coil pack

Ok, so for future reference... M4 is the pin type, DIN is the pinless type. My dizzy cap is shot, when we had a look at the last meet it seemed that the internal electrodes were almost burnt away. I've tried getting dizzy caps in the past, and most of the time I end up with the DIN type, which is a ...

DIN type coil pack

Just a quick one... would anyone happen to know of any good replacement coil that would have the DIN style connector as opposed to the M4 ones the Cavs usually have? I ask because things like dizzy caps tend to default to this style, and in order to make things easier in the long run, I'm looking at...

Should have remembered to put this on here yesterday... has anyone got a spare ICV for a C20NE they could bring? Just want to check if mine is playing silly buggers later. Cheers!

Re: C20NE Loom Rebuild

I forgot to post this wonderful little bit of info , as it gives you all the resistances of various plugs, and what programs they trigger in the ECU (assuming the Calibra does indeed have the same unit, which given it's the same engin set, I would reckon so). Also, my bad, it's program 2, not progra...

Re: C20NE Loom Rebuild

Heh, mine already has the yellow plug. 2200 ohms on the 95 RON side, should be program 4 in the ECU? At least that's assuming the Calibra uses the same ECU.

Re: C20NE Loom Rebuild

I have tried this, and yes, the idle RPM jumps up a fair bit and then dies when replugged. I guess (thankfully) it's not an ICV issue then, at least not directly with it. So now we're back to looking at other causes... and the 2K ohms I recorded on the CTS line were from the 1.8, somehow I managed t...
