Power steering pump rubber mountings
Evening all, Does anyone know where to get or have any rubber mountings for the power steering pump as mine have perished causing the pump to sit crooked and therefore causing a strain making it heavy to steer due to it not pumping freely. Contacted vauxhall but they don't stock those items. Thanks ...

What's behind the front driver's wheel arch?
Hi folks, Got the cavalier back on the road after making the mistake of getting the astra. There is a hissing noise coming from the drivers side front wheel arch and by looking through the crack between the door there seems to be a cylindrical shaped object with pipes coming from it and seemingly wh...

Okay I see, however they are saying my astra mk4 1.6 is a group 9, so I don't get how the cavalier would be of such a higher category?

Insurance group?
Hi guys, I've been trying to negotiate with my insurance company to transfer back to the cav, however they are quoting a lot of money for the transfer and are claiming that the insurance group of my cavalier is group 20, however this can't be true as a relative's Honda s2000 is group 20 and I'm sure...

Sorry to hear this, saw this on spotted dunstable. Shame as seems a good car for the year. Hope they won't target mine at some point. There are a couple of other cavs in the area too.

MPG With roof rack and bikes
Hi all, Hope you and your cars are doing well. Just wondering what sort of mpg decrease there would be if I use the roof rack and bikes on a road trip? I have the genuine vauxhall cavalier ones. Some websites say only a couple to a few mpg but others suggest it will be almost 50%. Does anyone have e...

Re: Does anyone know what a TCU box is?
Hi there, The engine is the 1.6 8v, its also a dual fuel version (reason I bought it in the first place).
Have tried swapping various injectors over and checked voltages with meter but the fault code hasn't changed through doing this.

Re: Does anyone know what a TCU box is?
Can't really give you an answer without knowing as much as possible about - Symptoms, Fault codes, What is affected - engine, brakes etc. There is no traction control unit as such, However some of the higher spec Astra's have ABS units with added traction control functionality. No other "TCU&q...

Does anyone know what a TCU box is?
Hi all, Firstly happy new year to you! It's been a while since i've been on here, since I have taken the Cavalier off the road for the winter. Basically I got myself a Mk 4 Astra to get used to the gears (which i've passed and upgraded my licence by the way), and since has been nothing but trouble a...

Re: Failed the MOT
Good News!! The problem has been solved!
It was that pipe that goes from the servo with the non return valve in the middle. Replaced the valve and pipe and is now running sweet as a nut.
I am extremely pleased with how well it is now running.
Many thanks for your help!

Re: Failed the MOT
Okay, as the small pipe underneath is removed, covering the hole up changes how the engine runs. could it also be possible that the pipe is partly blocked?Cavalier342 wrote:If you mean the rigid plastic one in the middle, that's the brake servo vacuum pipe.

Blocked breather could mess with the idle yes. Video might help, but there is no substitute for actually being there tbh. Cts is coolant temp sensor Okay, took the breather pipe off and wasn't blocked up just had oily residue. Heres a link to a video of the engine running and of the putting from th...

Re: Failed the MOT
Without hearing or seeing it we can only guess. Common things that lead to crappy idle could be, iac valve, air leak on intake manifold or pipes, egr fault, map sensor, a dizzy cap that tracks on the back of the king lead connection or the tank vent valve leaking. Not so common would be a valve tha...

Re: Failed the MOT
Hi there, After swapping the injector unit and map sensor over, it still hasn't made a difference to the running of the engine. However there is good news, it has now passed the mot and is drivable. just not running as it should. Has anyone got any other ideas as to what could be the cause of this i...

Hi there.
Does anyone know if the single point injector unit and map sensor from a 1.6 L reg would be compatible with or the same as on my 1.8 engine?

Okay, here is a picture of the readings given for the emissions. https://www.dropbox.com/s/uvt3znn3q44t91k/IMG_5408.jpg?dl=0 A new exhaust system was put on it before i bought it in 2012, since then I've done just over 20,000 in it. Therefore I wouldn't have thought the cat should be the issue. Howe...

Prefacelift 1.8 without an i is the 18SV model. Carburetor. Something can be played about with to get it right, could be the carb itself needs cleaning. Or stripping and cleaning thoroughly. Re: Failed the MOT
Yes, I changed the air filter 2 months ago.
Okay, sounds a good idea to look over the hoses.
One thing that I'm thinking could be linked to it, is that the idle isn't steady and when its being revved up it making a popping sound out of the exhaust. Does anyone know what that could mean?
