That I don't know but I know I'll enjoy checking! It's possible that they have 24 year-old grease in them as the car has done only 35000 miles.

Wierd whining noise after R turn from cold.

For a while now my 1.4 has been producing what sounds like a gear whine after swinging right about 200yds from home. It's a thin, edgy whine which disappears inside a half mile. In over 40 years of driving I've never experienced anything like it. The only idea I've had is that one of the D/S plunger...

How do you stop a Cav feeling front-heavy and understeering?

The original road tests by Autocar and Motor magazine of both the 1.4 and 1.6 Cavaliers were generally complementary but two things received criticism; one, the heavy unassisted steering, and two, that the car felt front-heavy into corners and was prone to understeer with 'woeful' turn-in. Is there ...

Re: Cavalier 1.4 - first MPG check.

Yes, it's £135/yr. Latest result is 40.22mpg. Mostly shortish journeys, 273 miles in very rainy conditions; still a pleasing result.

Re: 'How Many Left' Website ? Cav's are really Rare!?

The site uses the model descriptions as shown on the V5s which are not full model descriptions and do not always describe the same model in the same way; it varies according to how the original application for registration was completed and how the functionary at Swansea decided to interpret it. Whe...

I must say it's a bit bright for my taste! There are 90 adverts for Cavaliers on Gumtree! Some of these will be duplicated but there seem to be more on there than anywhere else.

Cavalier 1.4 - first MPG check.

I've done about 170 miles in my first Cav. and in mixed driving, mostly rural but some heavy traffic, she's averaged 43.66mpg. Great!

How rare is a 1.4?

I'm attempting to answer my own question here as I thought people might be interested. A study of 'How many left' stats shows that, as of the 3rd quarter of 2012 there were 17012 Cavaliers of all types left of which 11771 were taxed. Of those just 104 were 1.4 models, only 51 of which were taxed. Of...

My first Cavalier is the 1.4L in 'What's my Cav worth?'

I'm not telling what I paid but it was well worth it. I'm delighted that it's the smallest engine! It should easily top 40mpg in rural Lincolnshire and costs only £135/yr to tax. It drives superbly and is not slow. Contemporary road testers thought the 1.4 to be the surprise of the range, for its li...
