Re: 1990 Cavalier CD project

The rear end of the sills are ok on the CD. The poor old colorado has had to have some work done there and on the inner wheel arch bit with the rubber plug in it.
The brakes are getting worse on the poor old CD. Not really sure why though. I did think maybe I should change the flex hoses.

Some lovely pics there. I see the standards of the cars are as good as I remember. Auto jumble can be a bit hit and miss. You just have to be lucky

Re: 1990 Cavalier CD project

Failure of the week has been the rear electric window which self destructed. Having never really touched the rear windows before, I discover they are cable operated and the cable joins in a plastic piece which runs up and down the metal runner. It had gone brittle and broke. I removed the mechanism ...

Next job was to get the rear arch done. The winter this year turned what was a little bubble into a nice rotten arch top.

Re: 1990 Cavalier CD project

Handy to know. Especially if they fit ok. National tyres did the work but they complained about the availability of the cat which I couldn't understand, I thought it would be quite easy to get.

Re: The Colorado Story

I removed my diff cover to change the oil and at the same time fitted a drain plug (posted on here) new gasket fitted and it leaked - don't overtighten the fixings! The gasket I fitted was a smooth cardboard type, the second one I fitted had a raised rubber moulding on it which went all around the ...

Re: The Colorado Story

Just so much has happened with my lad and his problems that I haven't had much time. Its been a case of just running the cars and hoping nothing big fails. Pleased you still have all your fleet.

Re: 1990 Cavalier CD project

The fuel pipe was done and the smell went away. The next job was to get it a. Mot this was done In. March 2017 but it threw up corrosion on the sill bottoms near the back and perished rubber CV boots. The body Shop did the sills and did them without any hint of a join. The boots were done In Due cou...

Re: The Colorado Story

Well while it was off the road I took the rear anti roll bar and got the ends remade on them by my friend Gary who did his a year back. On the corrosion front if you look inside the wheel arch at the rear of the sill there is what looks like a round plastic plug and mine was rusting round it and whe...

Re: The Colorado Story

Well it really settled down well after that. The summer gave it a good clear out taking us all down to Devon and Cornwall for a lovely break. We ended up doing a 1000 miles that week with the cavalier not having one problem. I was very pleased with the lack of road noise from the nexen tyres. I was ...

At least the new one won't be too tight. To be honest I have no idea what filter I have on mine. I must buy another load of vx ones. I used to always have a stash of fuel and oil filters.

Re: Hello

Thanks. I have been on many forums over the years so I do forget. I don't get much chance to do a lot on the cavalier bar routine maintenance but it still chugs along. Nice to see some cavalier love on here.
