Re: Applecross (very north Scotland) Cavvy Run - Stunning pi
Indeed, epic weekend. According to James (Astra VXR) there were countless folk doing a double take as four old Cavaliers rocked on past. As far as the route goes, the road to Applecross is pretty mental but I'd say the roads back from Inverness over the Lecht and so on were as good, if not better. I...

Re: 1995 Cavalier SRi 16v - The story of how, when and why.
The Turbo's are absent as they have their own story and it's just too big to even bother. My original one has always been there, it's a story in it's own right then alongside it I've always bought random cars when I get fed up, bored and disillusioned. Most of which rarely last longer than 6 months ...

Re: Wheels Pic thread - Ive made a start
2mm is noithing really like fitting fait wheels on a vaux fiat......4x98 vaux .....4x100 straight on I dunno... The bolt hole is angled as are the bolts, so therefore when you tighten them down fully the bolts are seated in the bolt holes with equal pressure/force/whatever all the way round. If you...

1995 Cavalier SRi 16v - The story of how, when and why.
Figured I don't have a build diary for either of the cars on here but given the Turbo progress thread spans 10 years and about a billion Meg of bandwidth, I'll opt for the easier/shorter or the two and go with that instead. So... Since the dawn of time, I've always seemed to have more cars than stri...

Re: TV Live - The Rare and Endangered Display
Rather an elitist list. If you want rare how about : a mk2 cav 2 door 1.3 auto ? I saw one for sale once, and still wish I'd bought it Well, with respect it is "Total Vauxhall - The Performance Vauxhall Magazine" so the clue is in the title and yes we are aware that a 1.0 Y plate Nova is ...

TV Live - The Rare and Endangered Display
Afternoon folks I've been set the slightly daunting task of trying to secure as many endangered and rare Vauxhalls as possible for a special display at TV Live on the 7th of August at Castle Combe. So far I've come up with a short (?) list of cars that we'd like, now begins the task of actually find...

Re: Turbo's are so "Unreliable" and "Bad on fuel" Thread , Squig
Under the 'RULES' of the Breakdown organisation I'm currently with, would having a locked transfer box be costly should I break down ? Unless Vauxhall state that in all cases the Turbo must be put on a low loader ? Standard box: AA believe it can be spec lifted or flat towed upto a maximum of 30mph...

Re: Turbo's are so "Unreliable" and "Bad on fuel" Thread , Squig
15 years later and still the debate rages!
My Cavalier turbo has been more reliable over 6 years / 70,000 miles than my Mk4 GSi turbo has been over 4 months and 14,000 miles plus it's a damn sight more economical too.
This more myths from those who haven't owned one?

as for transfer boxes ...well ..... theres a 500 page hardback book coming out shortly detailing the safe operation of said item  Oooooh, I beg to differ my friend. I can reduce that 500 hardback to one sentence... "Transfer boxes are heavy, to avoid crushing injuries, always wear steel t...

Re: how not to drive (a turbo!!)
Ahhh, but see if you'd bought a Cavalier turbo the process is as follows: 1. Select victim, punching above your weight is well worth a try... you never know. 2. Select first, keep clutch depressed 3. Hold revs at 4,500rpm 4. Side step clutch 5. Hold on and remember to change into second... then thir...

Re: lowerin help
Correct, any lowering kit makes a Cavalier sits nose heavy... but a TD with need heavier front springs. I could never get any of mine to sit right. My GSi sat nose down so it ended up with 60mm front springs and 80mm rears and my SRi was on a 60mm kit with 10mm spacers on the front so in effect, dow...

Re: ticking redtops when cold
Got to question the use of oil flushes, they're not advised in older/high mileage engines as they as so agressive they strip out all the carbon etc, older cars need this layer of shite otherwise they can start to knock or at the leats, piss oil out every seal. Best bet is do it right and do it once,...

Re: 0-60 times of your cav???
A mate of mine bought one of those data thingys that work on the g-forces... you stick in the weight of the car and such like then basically launch the fooker, it then calculates 0-60 and stuff. Seemed fairly accurate, the quarter miles times for his (Ibiza Cupra) and mine were on par with what we w...

Re: The Cav Coupe Query
Not sure what the DVLA would make of you reregisterring it... Doors = 5 Edit... Doors = 2. Might raise a few eyebrows down in Swansea. However it's doable in the UK as Ecosse did similar with a 306 sedan, they removed the four doors and pieced in the doors and rear quarters from 3 door instead. It l...
