Re: X20xev poor idle=stress
Cool running thermostat is going to be swapped for the original today. I'm thinking maybe that car is running too cool ( it doesn't leave the blue on the gauge at all) and maybe is fooling the car into running on auto choke and over fuelling. Started the car from cold this morning and ran ok then af...

X20xev 4 branch manifold.....do they even exist
Hi folks been trying to find one these for ages with no luck so hope you guys can point me in the right direction. I know I could buy a c20xe manifold n crack out the welding gear but to be honest my welding skills are pretty crap so I'd rather just pay for one n save a hell of hassle. Couple of fol...

Re: J18bey's Cav 2.0 16v
Few toys added today while the weather was good. First off fitted my momo steering wheel, gearknob and my calibra volt/oil dials (still to be wired up though) http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l530/j18bey/Mobile%20Uploads/image.jpg Then ripped out my very corroded exhaust with the help of my new a...

Re: J18bey's Cav 2.0 16v
Aye your right mate original plan was to save it but after close inspection it was to far on to save. I would have ended up spending more money and time welding it than any other aspect to the restoration. Il post some pictures up of the rot on it, it's by far the worst be ever seen in a cav. As for...

Re: J18bey's Cav 2.0 16v
Been a busy few days, first off split my exhaust centre section in two going down my parents driveway so ordered up a new centre section and sportex backbox to cheer myself up. Finally got my gsi recovered so spending most of my time stripping that. http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l530/j18bey/im...

Re: Engines......which way to go?????
Having owned an ecotec for quite a while, heres my list of top tips 1) make sure your using a close ratio gearbox, the SRI was the only one to come with one as standard, this makes a huge difference to the car. 2) Change the flywheel.... that 12 kilo beast on the ecotec kills acceleration and thrott...

Re: Engines......which way to go?????
Yeah your bang on with the gearbox, I've unfortunately got the f18wr box. I'm swaying to putting the f20 box in mine and I've found a place to get a lightened flywheel at a decent price (read this makes a big difference to the car aswell) Been on the rest and be thankfull road a few times it's a gre...

Wiring in calibra dials???
I've got a hold of a set of the calibra twin dials that sit in the centre of the dash, are they straight forward to wire in or is there a how2 on the net? Cheers.

J18bey's Cav 2.0 16v
Thought I'd start a build thread on my Cav. Been lucky with this one completely solid underneath and spent all it's life in a garage. Got a hold of some SRI stuff already and bought a rotten GSI for bits for mine. Got plenty to keep me busy for a while......... The day I collected the car. http://i1...

Re: New to the site, old hat with cav's
Unfortunately a gls tried to get a decent Sri but hard to find a good one for sensible money these days. Won a watch though with this one, been wax oiled and under sealed back in 2001 and garaged all it's life so is solid with a mint engine. Few days after buying it got a full Sri kit and interior f...

Gsi/Sri bumper strip swap
Got a gsi bumper off a cav I'm breaking, but the car I'm fitting it to has the red Sri bump strips all round. Looking to see if I could take the gsi bumper apart and fit the Sri bump strips onto the lower part of the gsi bumper?

Engines......which way to go?????
So I've got two choices here, my new cav has a mint x20xev engine and I've recently just bought a rotten gsi with a 166k red top engine in it which ain't ran in 5years to break. Do I rebuilt the red top and drop it in mine or take the f20 gearbox get a hold of a lighter 2.0 8v flywheel and attach it...

Hi everyone just signed up to the site tonight after buying my latest cav last week, had a gsi repilca and Sri 2.0 8v a good few years ago and recently came across a minted x20xev last week after searching for ages for a good one so ended up buying it. So thought this be the best place to come for a...
