I'm going to give it a proper go myself, start from the front and work back, and even chance a go at bodywork. I may not like the car, but I don't hate it enough to see it gone. First job is strip the bumper and front wings off, and assess the front end

Re: '89 SRi snotter project

It's still in one piece, still on daily use, but it knows ( developed a knock out of nowhere, I think it's an arb link) I've been offered a spot in a unit to store it last night, by a vauxhall hating vw loving friend who really wants me to keep it. Just weighing up the options of if I can make it wo...

Re: '89 SRi snotter project

well, i'll post again, but you might not like it. it's time has come, end of the road, after 18 months of reliable motoring i've had an offer i cannot refuse with regards to another car. so the cav will be respectfully dismembered at the end of october, and as much as possible will live on in other ...

Re: '89 SRi snotter project

to say the project has been stagnant since last year in an understatement, severe shortage of funds and no spare time means its just been used and abused since last november, but hasnt missed a beat. MOT last month was pretty good, me and one of the lads at work rebuilt one of the rear chassis legs ...

Re: wheel wobble at 60+

i've got a similar problem, but having changed my top mounts for he ones off my old car, it pretty much eliminates them. is it just a wobble through the steering wheel? or does it come trough the whole car? knowing the very recent history of my SRi, i'm currently trying to find a pair of driveshafts...

Re: Vectra c diesel - 1.9 vs 2.0

I wouldn't touch a cdti. Piles of crap. reasons? to be fair the hugely vast majority of modern diesels arn't much cop, but it seems the vaux/alfa units are at least the best of a bad bunch peugeot/citroen can't build diesels since the 306 (HDi electrical nightmares) renault's are for sadists VW/Aud...

Re: Vectra c diesel - 1.9 vs 2.0

It's for my old man, and I'll be doing all and any work if (when) it goes wrong. I know the 1.9's inside out (its just an Alfa unit, I used to work on them all day :)) As I said reliability and economy are paramount, he does 120 miles every day to work and back, and is fed up of his blue oval tdci g...

Re: What modifacations could I do to make my cab faster

Without sounding like in taking the proverbial, if you wish to keep the 1600, strip it out. Lose as much weight off the car as possible. Rear seats, all trims, carpets, dash (if your desperate). Engine wise, look down the route of cams, exhaust... All depends on how deep your pockets are. Quickest, ...

How do they know?

The cav split a fuel line today. 200 yards from the house on the way home. With all the mileage I've done, all the journeys taken, how did it know to break a stones throw from home? In a similar vein, I once drove a nova from Manchester, and as I put it in reverse at home to park, it sheared the cam...
