Re: Engine idle surging when stationary
Been a while, but i've fixed it...sort of. The big air hose was split, so swapped that and also swapped the crank sensor, but now when cold and not in drive , if i rev the engine, it hits around 2500rpm and the eml light comes on, and the revs drop, and then the eml light goes out. I'm hoping it's n...

Re: Engine idle surging when stationary
Can anyone confirm that the connector that joins at a metal tab attached to the cam cover is the crankshaft sensor, and if so where does it go, as it seems to run down the rear side of the timing belt cover? Cheers
If anyone has a diagram that would be fantastic

Re: Engine idle surging when stationary
Hi, been a while as i've been busy with other crap, but had a play around with the cav today, swapped the idle control valve back to the cleaned original, big mistake, idle going up and down for no reason, so back to the replacement and it settled down a bit. Breather pipe from top of the cam cover ...

i've heard of and seen some cavaliers running around with vectra b standard fit steering wheels, so they must share the same splines too

Engine idle surging when stationary
Car is a 2l facelift automatic. Drives fine, but when you come to a halt with it in drive the engine idle surges up and down so the car keeps trying to pull away. Weird thing is it only happens if i come to a halt whilst in D(rive). If i knock it into neutral before coming to a halt, then the idle b...

Re: AF20 auto box oil changed but need help
have you had a look at your radiator to make sure it's not blocked or got bent fins? I'm sure the auto cars had a different rad that incoroprates a gearbox cooling section. I'm wondering if the box is overheating causing the flashing s?

Re: c20ne running slightly hotter
Thanks for the replies, the timing belt and water pump are now 5 years old, but haven't done more than 20k and to be honest i can't really afford to do them just yet. I'll give the thermostat a try first and go from there

Re: Sound proofing SRi hatch
I used 1 pack of dynamat to do the boot on my escort (series two turbo, mk4 shape), and it was about 1 mm thick, and less than 1 square metre. If you want to have a go, i'd do the boot area, inside the inner rear wings and put some on the inside of the four door skins. just doing those big panels wi...

Re: c20ne running slightly hotter
Thanks, i was thinking Thermostat too, I assume it's in the housing where the temp sender is? If so, any suggestions on a safe way to get the bolts out without snapping them as i guess it's an alloy housing and steel bolts?

just had a look at the temp sender, doesn't look corroded, and the connector is nice and tight on it, but given it a clean up anyway

Re: c20ne running slightly hotter
Hi, it's always run at the lower temperature in the 8-9 years i've had it, always chucks out plenty of heat when i need it :) . What concerns me is it runs hotter now than it used to. I'm wondering if the cap seal has gone so the coolant isn't under as much pressure so running hotter, or maybe therm...

Re: Sound proofing SRi hatch
not soundproofed our current cars, but I did use a roll of dynamat of my RS turbo years ago to kill off some sound in the boot area. I just stripped out the hatch carpet, and put dynamat down above where the exhaust ran, and put big strips around the spare wheel well and along the back panel. I foun...

c20ne running slightly hotter
Hi, it seemed to start all of a sudden, instead of the temp gauge sitting just below the 1st bar above the cold when driving along, it now sits on, or just above it. Water level was sightly low, so i topped it up, but no obvious difference. Car runs fine apart from in traffic it gets hot and fan kic...

Re: AF20 auto box oil changed but need help
If you need a new selector switch (the one under the bonnet) I've seen a new one on one of the vauxhall parts search sites online, was expensive, £170 or more if memory serves. but can be got. If you need the interior selector, there's one doing the rounds on the bay often for £25 plus post, has bee...

Re: door card vinyl lifting on armrest
Thanks guys, i'll try to get a picture posted up in the next day or two. Gary no way i can afford to get it retrimmed, and a replacement is going to be hard to find, as my cav is a 93 facelift cd, and the particular trim was only available on cd's for the one year. I have some turbo cards, but they'...

door card vinyl lifting on armrest
Hi, i've had this problem ever since i got the cav years ago. the vinyle on the drivers armrest at the b pillar end looks to have shrunk and lifted from the armrest. it is so taught that it pulls the top door card fixing out of the door. I spoke to a car trimmer and he said it couldn't be refixed, b...

Re: Michelins - a "hard" lesson
I use a small independent tyre fitter, i just phone them up and ask what they can get in 195/60 14 and pick from what they can get, usually takes a day or so to get in, but i don't have any issiues, well so far! i've had avons and currently got yokohama cdrives on my cav (and our vectra too) usually...

Re: Boot not opening fully
Change the telescopic struts on either side of the hatch that go from the hatch to the body. They are gas rams that push the hatch up when they get to a certain point, and stop it whacking you on the head as you unload. About £20 from a motor factors, maybe a bit cheaper on the bay
