on my 1995 1.7td ?
The manual says there are grub screws but
I cannot see any.

Re: brake pad wear sensors
I think sensors come already fitted to the pads either
as an electrical contact or as a spring that makes an
awful noise if it touches the disc .
Not sure if you could retro fit.

According to the Heynes manual it's a cat.I don't think
it does much apart from appease the Green brigade.

Re: Condensation
Are you sure your carpets are dry? They might not
feel wet but you really need to lift them.
I had to bail water out of my footwells last winter
because water was getting in via the scuttle .
It took a while but it's nice and dry now.

Yes I've checked those. The noise only occurs
when the engine is fully warmed up after a run.

Rattling cat
I've had an annoying rattle from the exhaust on
my 1.7td for some while which I thought was a silencer.
I've now got a new exhaust but it still rattles so it
must be the cat.
Can anybody suggest the cure for this?

I've got the same problem .If I had to pay a garage
to maintain my car ,it would have had to go years
ago.
Unfortunately many youngsters don't have the
knowledge or desire to do so today as cars are made
to be disposable.

Re: Flashing s still here
You want some grease in there but not
on the contacts. Preferably Synthetic.

Re: Flashing s still here
I had the same problem.I suspect the gearbox
doesn't change gear properly.
I cured it by cleaning the contacts in the switch
with contact spray cleaner. You really don't want any grease
on them.
A new switch was more than the car was worth.

dismantle it anyway ?

Re: Any rusty leaky sumps on here!
I changed mine a few years ago.Not difficult but recall oil kept dripping down onto the mating surface even after the engine had stood for more than a day.

It sounds like you have bent the cable.
On my 2.O litre the it is straight where it goes onto the gearbox .

Re: Bad braking in my dippy
Clean the pads on a flat surface with coarse sandpaper .
If no better fit new quality pads.
You should clamp pipe and loosten nipple before pushing piston back .

Re: MOT'S RULES ON ABS
I think you'll find it would fail its MoT if the car was fitted with ABS as standard equipment.
You may also have insurance problems.
Why not ask MoT tester first?
