Re: Cav Expression 1.8i Restoration

Good to hear of another Cavalier being saved. :) Had the same with my cavalier when I first brought it nearly 5 years ago the engine had lost complete oil pressure on the bottom due to the previous owner never changing the oil. Still got me around for nearly 6 months till I got another engine. Wasn'...

Re: Lowrider Dave's 1.8 LS

Thanks, black does seem unusual for a hatchback yet it works as it was offered as a colour for the cavalier era. I think my initial choice of Arden Blue would have looked 'too modern' on a cav. Not easy to see but these are doorcards... http://www.flickr.com/photos/davekirwin/6736056643/in/set-72157...

Re: Lowrider Dave's 1.8 LS

Really like the colour choice and Cesaro wheel combo too lookforward to seening more pictures of it progressing. :) I have seen a stright black early shape Cavalier hatch myself years ago but not a facelift one apart from the odd metalic black SRI or CDX etc. I've just checked in the garage to be su...

Re: My W I P ......

Wow that's some rust repairs you had to do there! My 93 Cav 1.8i LS had a new passanger sill just over 2 years ago and I couldn't believe how bad it was when I saw it after the outer sill was removed. The middle skin was almost non exsitant. Nice one for not giving up with it and restoring it. Lookf...

Glad no real harms been done to you or the car apart from the tank and pump. Them wheels are a excellent choice for a Cavalier wouldn't mind a set myself.

Re: James' 1993 Cavalier LS

Good going with the genuine parts haul. :) Could do with a replacement gear gaiter myself, it's been one of those things on my list to get round to. An do the genuine side indicator rubbers keep the damp out as my clear aftermarket indicator lens with the rubber seam to let some in? I did ask about ...

Re: MY 93 L CAV 1.8 LS

What a bummer. Sorry to hear it. Still, it could have been worse. Hopefully the door handle won’t be too much of a problem to fix if it is broken. Easier than fixing the front door handle at least. Yer thanks the handle still operates ok just scratched the textured finish slightly though so will ho...

Good news got the N/S track rod end sorted and a small split on a sleeved braded pipe was the cause of the high emissons. So with a new pipe all is well and I've now got myself another years MOT. :thumb

Re: MY 93 L CAV 1.8 LS

Keep us posted :) Well an update at last since Friday! Got the new battary fitted Saturday and pleased to say it fired up 1st time and so far so good so I think I was right unfortantly about the old battary getting damaged from before. Will see how I go of course but I think/hope I right about it. ...

Re: My new restoration project

Cheers. Like I said on my L it was quite easy getting to it, only had to remove the lower center consoles. But on higher specked models, I'd imagine there would be more wiring looms and plugs in the way. Sorted out my Cav heater matrix a few years ago with help from a mate. Mines a facelift 1.8 LS ...

Well not much of an update as I haven't changed the oil yet with the weather and tbh I haven't really been going far in it apart from last weekend to see my dad. Though Im glad to say the engine is behaving itself at the moment. :) The cav hasn't been making the odd clunk noise etheir since the weat...

Re: MY 93 L CAV 1.8 LS

I had nothing but issues when i switched to comma years ago. Asda for 4litre tubs of castrol for £12 at the minute. As for the sump around 30-40 quid will see you a new one. but i know what you mean about money being tight though. The 1.8's should only take 4litres anyhow. As for the exhaust manifo...

I'd be tempted to check the oil pressure switch and connection too. Does the engine knock at all? Good point will have a look tomorrow. Re: MY 93 L CAV 1.8 LS

Rebuild the engine, it was reliable till this point. Finding a good C18NZ is difficult as Robsey will probably tell you. That engine on eBay for £160 has been there for over a year now. Thank's Envoy CDX as you say it not easy to find a good engine 2nd hand for these given that the youngest of thes...

Not much progress other than I getting the horrible feeling history could be repeating itself! Let me explain last week the Cav refused to start at home. So got my mate Jim round in his Vectra and a jumpstart later it fired up. Seamed that the battary was discharged for some reason but the alternato...

Congrats on the mot pass. :D Hope my Cav LS does as well when the mot due in Feb! Dare I say it but you could try ebay for the door trim as there a guy breaking a V6 CDX on there at the mo. That should have the corret trim if your struggling to find one.

Re: 3 years of standing, REbirth thread

Great to see this getting back on the road again. I'd love that kit for my hatch especially the front bumper. It makes it really stands out as it so rare. The welding is pretty tame as other people have said. But I was lucky with mine when it had the welding it needed done as I knew someone that cou...

Really like this cav myself in the early SRI spec and the met black combo was watching it on ebay. It was previously advertised on pistonheads a few years ago if my memory serves me correct!

Good luck with it and lookforward to seeing more progress with it. :)
