Re: Return to a Cavalier - Satin Red Diplomat.
Well, Thats it. Dippy failed her MOT in epic fashion last week. A combination of rot and emissions have finally put her in a position where I'm not able to justify spending the money to keep her on the road. She's rusting out on the rar acrches and sills, the rear spring seats and chassis rails are ...

Re: Return to a Cavalier - Satin Red Diplomat.
Gosh! Just under two years since I last posted! Dippy is still here, still plodding to and from work, and still providing me with little oppertunities to explore the more puzzling mechanical faults. Latest one was working the bolt loose on the throttle linkage, resulting in a 'failure to progress'. ...

Retro fitting kerb lights into the rear doors is simple too.. If I can get my pictures back into the thread, I think I described the process in my dippy project..

That price aint bad either is it? I was quoted £1000 just to do both rear arches, spray the front bumper and colour code the boot spoiler..

Re: James' 2.0 8v Diplomat
The Eibachs really do make a hell of a difference don't they? I recall mine feeling like a different car. Roll significantly reduced, but with the bonus of still being on the correct wheels. I also think the eibachs improve the look of the cav so much. The wheels fill the arches without the car look...

Re: Front Door and Rear Speakers recommended replacements?
I've replaced mine with Pioneer Twin Cone in the front doors and rear shelf. Rears are TS-G1731i (17cm), and are a direct swap for the originals. Can't remember what the fronts are, but they needed adaptor rings to fit. Both pairs came in at about £50, with the adaptors. They won't blow your ears ou...

Re: Intermittent Engine Failiure
Check the alt is charging the battery properly.. I had a similar issue in the GTE.. It would cut, violently, on WOT.. Turned out that the connector on the alternator was badly corroded internally where the wire connects.. Although the system was charging, it wasn't charging properly and every now an...

Sooo.. Just to give you an idea of how shoddy the ECP Pagid part was. This was the state of the thread after 3 days of use... http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad333/scidaman/Cav/2017/CIMG6151.jpg As you can see, there was very little thread in the first place, and it's ripped about half of it away...

Nice work James I need to do this job on my MK3 soon my hand break cable makes a horrible squeaking noise when you touqe up the hand break I have isolated it to the little nylon guides that have warn out. How much was you quoted for the genuine cables? Yeah, the nylon guides take a lot of wear judg...

Re: Return to a Cavalier - Satin Red Diplomat.
Buy wrong.. Buy twice! When the cable went, I couldn't find genuine cables with the part numbers I had, so I bought a pair, made by Pagid, from Euro Car Parts.. All was well.. Until the middle of last week, when the handbrake all of a sudden needed to be pulled right up to engage. Throwing it into t...

Re: Return to a Cavalier - Satin Red Diplomat.
Bit of a catch up here.. Dippy, apart from it's trip to the Southern Meet, has been pounding the road to and from work since December with little more than fill-ups and washing. In that time, she's gathered some jobs that need to be caught up with, so I'm going to be posting here a bit more regulari...

Re: classic car insurance
Good luck...
I've just tried to do this with the GTE. It's only on the road for the summers and does less than 2k miles a year.. I went through various classic insurers and 'specialists' to find that it was cheaper to keep it on the multicar policy with the daily Cav and Volvo..

From experience, Front electric window mechanisms are relatively easy to get hold of. Rears are not. As long as the runners aren't bent, they can be swapped over to run on Omega units if they give out.

OMG.. Glad occupants are all OK.. Sure the old girl will be back soon.. Shout if there's any bits needed, in case I've got anything in the loft.. My Dippy tried to show solidarity today.. Re: James' 2.0 8v Diplomat
I've thrown Eibachs on my Diplomat, along with standard Monroe shocks. Made a load of difference to the body roll, whilst keeping the ride nice and comfortable on the standard wheels and tyres. Eibachs dropped it enough to make the wheels fill the arches decently without making it look like its been...

Re: Pete's new toy - Yet another Lotus! Elise Special Editio
Shame about the Esprit though, I have an awfully big soft spot for them. I had the priviledge of a ride in the Esprit last year.. Truely epic car. When we drove past a Ferrari dealership, it actually made people look away from all the red Italian stuff.. The Elise looks so small and light, I'm plan...

Bright red hatch. Wiltshire..
Went to one of the construction sites on the secure site I work on today. Walked round the side of the portakabins and spotted a Bright Red Cav.. Looked like an Envoy by the shape of the wing badges under the site mud. Apparently the builder who owns it has had it from new.. Had a very quick chat wi...

I dont think they will personally.. The two simply Vauxhall days I attended were nowhere near as large as the comparable events for other brands, even with the turnout from the clubs. Unfortunately, the last one was very wet too (I prooved the new roof on the GTE in it!). Loads of people just didn't...

Ah another Vectra-C owner. Wow - just noticed the old style bonnet-prop. I thought that all Vectra-C's came with the gas-struts. Seems odd to see it on a late model. Obviously Vauxhall penny pinching towards the latter years of production. Facelift Vectra C's went back to a prop.. I believe that th...

Re: Rear widow de mist not working
Start by checking obvious things (fuse, connections, switch etc). Unless you've hit it or scraped something very heavily down the glass, you're not likely to have broken the element. Does yours have electric door mirrors? Turning on the rear screen demister should warm them, or at least put a light ...
