Rear ARB Bushings
Anybody know where I could find some rear ARB bushings for my SRi? Specifically the two rectangular shaped ones that sit on the ends of the bar as they seem hard to find! Thanks

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon
A clunk when accelerating or braking would have me thinking along the lines of an engine or gearbox mount possibly. But definitely check that your callipers are sitting properly!! Calipers are tight but I wonder if it is the holders themselves that are worn a bit, as it recon caliper so some of the...

Re: SRi restoration project
The danger is to get bogged down (endlessly) in the detail. Simple plain facts: He took the job on after inspection. Did a full restoration and charged me the full restoration price (he could have and perhaps should have turned the job down). He could have and should have addressed any water retent...

Torque Figure for split calipers
Hi Folks,
I'm in the middle of rebuilding brake calipers on my SRi.
Does anybody have an idea of what the torque figures are for the bolt which hold the two halves together?
They're just standard calipers from a c20xe SRi.
Cheers,
Ste

Re: SRi restoration project
Wow that really is a shame considering the money you put in! To me, based on the pictures you've posted, the quantity of underseal (especially in near the rear axle mount) looks to be absolute overkill and possibly aided in that corrosion. Surely the annual Rustbuster inspections would have copped s...

Re: Ste's 1993 Cav SRi project
Anyway, not a whole load of progress since Christmas for a number of reasons, least importantly of which was sorting my daily for its NCT (Irish MOT). Have started on the driver side chassis leg now. The inner part has been treated and sealed up. The end part shouldn't be too long behind it. I've de...

Excellent work! Amazing amount of time and effort gone into that. Should be ready for another 20 years after all that!!

Re: Ste's 1993 Cav SRi project
Looks a nice shell from them photos.. Top work! Thanks! It's not too bad in fairness, most of the rusty areas look worse than they actually are, thankfully! Ste? Is that another name from Cavweb days of yore that I (albeit vaguely) remember? Lovely looking car Ste and nice to see the progress pics ...

Re: Ste's 1993 Cav SRi project
Sure would like to know what magic Irish polish you used to get the instant transformation from the original to what's shown in the latest pic :) Haha that's most definitely not the same car :P Aint that his inspiration pic??? Having said that go Bilthamber or Autobrite cleaning products you be on ...

Re: Ste's 1993 Cav SRi project
That looks like an excellent starting point. Nice work! What are your long term plans for the car? Thanks! Long term, I want to get the car back to it's former glory and keep it very standard. Only non standard things will be the likes of the exhaust and suspensions system. I would say down the lin...

Ste's 1993 Cav SRi project
Having been an owner of Opels/Vauxhalls for years, I was on the hunt for a project. All my previous Opels were daily drivers, so modifying and tinkering with them was a weekend sort of thing with the pressure of them having to be drivable for monday morning. I found myself wanting a project I could ...

Re: Advice on sealing the underbody
To be honest, I've been jumping back and forth from POR to Bilt Hamber, trying to decide which route to take. One week I'll read something that would sway me one way or the other. What I do like about Bilt Hamber is that it seems like less of a shortcut, compared to just painting over rust. I'm a bi...

Re: Advice on sealing the underbody
Ok, I've somewhat simplified my original plan :thumb As mentioned, there is no rot on the underside (well...that I've seen so far!) and only surface rust in the usual places such as arches, chassis rails etc. After reading a tonne, I think I'll go with the 3 step POR15 method (degrease, metal ready,...

Cheers for the feed back everybody.
I'll definitely reconsider the Shultz and source a less manky option.

Advice on sealing the underbody
Hi all, New member here from Ireland. I own a 1993 SRi Cav saloon in RIOJA RED The car is a bit of a project currently, doesn't need much work, has a healthy C20xe and has never been welded nor does it need any. Has been away from salted roads since 1994 thankfully and stored in a shed the last 10 y...
