Re: Running LEAN 1.8i

Edit: So, I'm now aware that the 'injection' variant isn't direct to cylinder like you'd expect, but actually refers to this bastard of a carb with a single jet in it? I'm not even more confused than before, but oddly enlightened... You're possibly confusing port injection with direct injection bot...

Re: Radio bypasses ignition

Well, a while ago I bought another '95 Vectra A (a crashed one) for the parts, and, unlike mine it has the factory radio and speakers. The radio turns on whenever you press the button on it, but it also turns on and off through the ignition, and I want mine to do that too. Confused If it (the radio...

Re: My 46k 2.0 LS Cavalier

I did want to keep the original tape deck in this cav, but unfortunately its dead. So until I can turn up another one ( can anyone help please?)... I've got an SC330 in my garage with two security heads It came with the redtop, I know it works as I played it when I collected it from Southampton but...

Re: Radio bypasses ignition

Can we define what we mean by 'turn on' here?
Radio goes active with ignition or actually starts playing music?

My radio won't operate without the ignition on either (engine not necessarily started) but that's been the case with all of my cars, not just my cavs

Re: Radio bypasses ignition

I didn't realise that there were Cavs where the radio came on with the ignition
I thought turning them on manually was the norm

Re: New Disc Warped

If you put the new disc on a flat surface, a kitchen worktop for example, with the contact between disc and surface at eye level and slowly rotate the disc, do you see any intermittent increases in gap between worktop and disc? Judging by the amount of warp you're describing, you should be able to. ...

Re: Crankshaft sensor

OK but if the EM light then goes out with the engine started, I don't see how anything can point to the crank sensor; if you've got an EM light that is behaving normally, you don't have any reason to run a paperclip test but if for some reason you decide to anyway and it's throwing up the code for a...

Re: Crankshaft sensor

There are either no sensor issues (anywhere, not just with your crank sensor) or the EM light bulb is blown/missing

What do you mean by 'never come on at all'?
Does the EM light come on with the ignition and then disappear after the engine is started?

Re: Crankshaft sensor

I once tricked a windscreen water reservoir level sensor into thinking it was OK by removing the (duff) sensor itself and shorting the pins in the loom. Absolutely no idea if that will work with something more sophisticated like a crank sensor.
Probably not.

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)

Can I ask what happened to your sunvisor clip? The once-in-a-blue-moon instance where I needed my sunvisor across my door window resulted in my retaining clip disintegrating when I went to replace the visor. Not a problem (I thought) I've got two cars sitting at home doing nothing for the time being...

Lost soul seeking the light

He might be along soon, we'll see :) Thread reads from bottom to top ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Hi Kurtis You haven’t given much to go on but based on what you’ve said I would say that replacing the engine is probably a bit drastic. There’s clearly a problem but replacing the engine in order to ...

Re: Mud flap

It's a bit murky out there and difficult to even get my fingers in for a feel with the tyres in the way but the rears appear to be held on by a couple of small g-clamp type fittings; the fitting sandwiches the lip of the rear bumper and the mudflap and the bolt tightens them together, holding the mu...

Re: V6 oil filter

I'm reasonably sure that most (petrol-engined) oil filters are compatible across the range from 1.2 up to the big-block stuff. There are a tiny few exceptions. I vaguely recall that the more recent lumps are OK for a certain batch of engine numbers but not for others.
