Re: Gear selector switch wanted

Thanks for the information. I understand that they can be opened up and cleaned out but I was hoping to do this on a spare one and then swap it over. The one that I bought to do this turned out to have a damaged and unrepairable central shaft.

Gear selector switch wanted

Can anyone suggest where I can buy an autobox selector switch in the U K? I did buy one but the central operating shaft was damaged. I want to get one cleaned up and sorted ready to fit to my 2.0 8v Mk3s. Both decided to give the flash of doom but one has recovered!

Radio repairs

The 752 Philips radio cassette has quit. All I can hear is a very faint sound which does not improve when using a cassette. Strangely enough the Clarion radio in my Nissan Figaro had just developed the same fault but luckily there is a Clarion repairer in the UK and they fixed it. Does anyone know o...

Re: Fuel tank breather pipe

Thanks Rob for the information. It is the 11mm pipe but there is a problem. The outer diameter is 13mm to 14mm as it goes through a tube heading up to the fuel filler. I think that I have found a possible source but, 1) they are closed until after the holiday and 2) they sell only 30m lengths! My lo...

Fuel tank breather pipe

Just taken the car for it's MOT and they have told me that there is a problem with the tank breather pipe. Can anyone help me with the internal diameter of the breather pipe that is on a 1986 1800i Mk2 Cavalier. It's the one that goes to the filler neck apparently. They mentioned that it is routed t...

Re: Headlight levelling motor problem

Thanks everyone. I added a second earth to the brown cable on the plug to the back of the motor and it now works fine operating the headlamp as it should. Swopping the original motor back did not work so that motor must be duff. So just an poor or intermittent earth, plus the one faulty motor. Two c...

Re: Headlight levelling motor problem

Thanks Rob. Last night we went folk dancing and one of the other dancers there is a retired electronics engineer. He suggested plugging the two motors that are suspect into the drivers side plug. This way, the wiring being ok, will check the motors. I should have thought of that! You can hear the mo...

Headlight levelling motor problem

My 94 facelift CD Cavalier n/s levelling motor has never worked. The headlamp frame was cracked so a complete new unit was fitted. Motor still not working. Motor replaced today with a new old stock one but still no beam movement. There is a buzzing noise so power is getting through. Running the moto...

Re: Heated seats

I bought 2 sets of heating pads from China with a view to having them fitted to the CD. The feedback was good and they look well made. If anyone is interested, I can let them have the dimensions. Just PM me. With the Lidl solution I won't be fitting them.

Re: Heated seats

Rob, the Lidl seats take less than a minute a side to slip on. Once on, they don't move around on standard CD seats. Haven't tried them on the LS or the convertible yet. If anyone reading this post is anywhere near Bournemouth they are welcome to a "test drive".

Re: Heated seats

Update on the Lidl heated seats after a lot of use. They work really well and there does not seem to be a problem with the existing wiring coping with the load. The method of anchoring the covers to the CD seat isn't ideal but it is acceptable. It would be nice if they were handed. Using one on the ...

Re: Strange idle on 2.0 8V

The problem with the CD Cavalier has disappeared. The air hose was replaced which seems to have cured it. I have covered about 500 miles so a fair test. I suppose the test will be in the heat of the summer.

Re: Heater blower squeak

Thanks Rob. I took the car in for it's M.O.T. and the tester who also services the car noticed the squeak. I explained that I had a new motor and he said we will give the existing one more lubricant . He did and it's running fine. I will keep your excellent diagram for when it does quit.

Re: Heater blower squeak

The replacement heater blower arrived from Germany via DHL late yesterday evening. The car is going for it's MOT tomorrow so I wasn't planning to attempt to fit it before that. Your responses show that I will need to modify the heater casing. What tool did you use to modify it? Also is the area that...

Re: Heater blower squeak

Thanks for your comments and thoughts. The only concern I still have is that suppliers refer to the item as being suitable for cars with a "P" prefix in the VIN. My car has an "R". The subsequent numbers do fit. Does anyone know if this is significant? I will leave ordering the m...

Re: Heater blower squeak

Just a bit of clarification. The car had it's annual service by a person who served his apprenticeship on Vauxhalls of the 70s, and worked on our Cavaliers ever since. He owned a mark 3 for many years. He lubricated the motor but did not remove it. Apparently his cure usually works. The fan starts u...

Heater blower squeak

The blower on my 94 CD 2.0 8v auto has not responded to lubrication so I am looking for a new motor. I ordered one yesterday from a UK on line supplier and after several messages they have responded by saying that their motors are for cars with air con only. Nothing mentioned in the advert to this e...

Re: Heated seats

Rob, I think that I will just keep them handy for the cold snaps. Fortunately Bournemouth usually has an acceptable climate so they shouldn't get too much use!
