Re: Removing hub without bearing falling apart

For many years I've tried to remove just the hub/ drive flange without damaging the bearing but never had any success. I think that although the hub just taps into the bearing inner races after the new bearing is pressed into the strut, the force of the hub nut clamping the whole shebang together is...

Re: Red or dead! The hopeless resurrection of a crashed Env

Thanks Robsey, the shudder probably is relatively normal, particularly on a single-point injected car. No mis-fires and it revs cleanly. It also has just dawned on me that the fuel in the tank is 3+ years old! It's amazing it runs as cleanly as it does  Some inspiration to help me get my ar*e...

Re: Red or dead! The hopeless resurrection of a crashed Env

Thanks for the comments! Robsey, yes you've understood my line of thought- I'm not quite ready to commit much in the way of expenditure on this car until it's straight and happy. Lets be honest, the sword of Damocles is not far away from this thing, it could go either way until it's MoT'd and runnin...

Re: Rescued a One elderly Owner K plate Diplomat saloon

Diplomat saloon is possibly my favourite spec! :love Regarding the auto issues, I would recommend removing the selector switch on top of the gearbox and giving it a good clean out and re-grease. This thing tells the car what position the gear lever is in. It unbolts and the wiring plugs detach; you ...

Re: Red or dead! The hopeless resurrection of a crashed Env

I had a few hours yesterday so decided to fit a new timing belt. This car has a C16NZ2 engine which was a rare deviance from Vauxhall's usually very sensible engine coding system. Basically, it's a lottery as to whether you'll get the right parts for this engine as it is a 'big block' lump, with a '...

Red or dead! The hopeless resurrection of a crashed Envoy

Hi all. After a lengthy debate (ten minutes actual thought, rest of the time spent watching Happy Valley), I've decided to renovate my 1993 Cavalier Envoy. For those who didn't see my new members post, I was given a 'K' reg Cavalier in Satin red. Sounds like a right bargain, eh? Well, I'd say 'lumbe...

Re: New member, with cr*p Cav- I need your help!

Sounds good. I've started buying some bits and straight away, noticed that there is massive confusion surrounding the 1600cc engines. Mine is an NZ2, which as I understand it, is basically a C18NZ with a shorter stroke? I have access to EPC and the old Trade Club books (remember them..?!) and it's c...

Re: New member, with cr*p Cav- I need your help!

Thankyou all :) Lots to think about. My biggest problem is, I can't bare to put a healthy dog down.. but my sensible head says it's not financially worth it, not that that really matters. I would probably keep it standard. I live in a remote part with awful roads and a nice softly sprung Cav with 70...

New member, with cr*p Cav- I need your help!

Hi all, I'm new to the board (but was registered previous to the '93 facelift!) and have a dilemma with a Cavalier I have. The problem is, I'm not entirely sure whether to repair (and save) the car, or call it a day. A bit about me, I live in Kent and have two other VXs at the moment, both Astras- h...
