Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
Small update, during my lunch hour I finished flattening the glaze off , on the passenger side and etch primed it. Oh dear I thought- or words much stronger. It looked absolutely pants. Then I hit it with epoxy primer at a distance and am delighted to announce its all but there. Just the drivers sid...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
The way that I do it is to knock the first couple of skims back with my electric da. Then I tend to guide coat and block it back with a long board. Any remaining areas of low spots are then gone over with dolphin glaze, then guide coated again, blocked and then if anywhere is left the process is rep...

Re: Why are interviewers so rude?
You have my sympathy, interviews to me are a totally unrealistic way to recruit staff. In my life I've only ever been to two and the second one I got. Rather than quiting is there a better job out there for you that the powers that be would appreciate you better? I often dream of getting another job...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
That's some amount of filling and prepping you've got done there, I try my best to replace panels with new or as new as possible to avoid filling and sanding bits as I struggle to get it looking right. I always wondered if I was doing it right though I usually just use a tin of basic cataloy then s...

Re: My VERY RUSTY VW T25 Camper Van Project
Sooner or later there's going to be a fatal accident caused by a vehicle not getting mot'd. Personally I'm able to check cars over to see if they are safe, every issue with my Volvo on the last test I was aware of, just a little surprised as to how much it cost to rectify. However you take my wife, ...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
Yes they are the last panels to dress up. Then it'll be another coat of filler primer and epoxy. Then flatten the whole van down again and remove any minor imperfections that show up. The biggest amount of work on these rear quarters has been caused by the fact that I had to splice Estate car versio...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
I admire your dedication and i wish i had a fraction of your patience, bodywork and me just don't get on despite knowing preparation is key. Keep up the good work, you're getting there👍 Thanks for the words of encouragement, it's more a case of having to for financial constraints rather than having...

Re: My VERY RUSTY VW T25 Camper Van Project
Ive heard a lot of people having issues trying to register their vehicles as historic, but I didn't realise you had to change the taxation class for the vehicle to become mot exempt. I actually feel though that mot exemption is downright dangerous for the average person off the street, a lot seem to...

Re: Matts CDX - Work In Progress.
The last few febi items that I've bought have turned out to be very poor quality, bearings that disintegrate being pressed in, the rubber separating from the shock top mounts a few months after fitting etc, just check the items very thoroughly before fitting. I strongly suspect that like a lot of fi...

Re: Matts CDX - Work In Progress.
On my second cavalier the ignition switch burnt out, being skint i used to put the key in to keep the steering lock off, and picked up on the wires on the back. One flick switch to turn the ignition on and another connected to a push to make switch to engage the starter. Always meant to get another ...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
The above process took over 2 hours of sanding. I was absolutely covered in filler dust from head to toe, plus even with gel filled gloves, my hands virtually lost all feeling. This time I will be hopefully using a lot less filler. Here it is with its second skim applied, hopefully one more, then a ...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
An on going theme with this project has been me struggling with the filling work in general, but particularly with the rear quarter panels. Recently, even though I still wouldn't say that I'm any good at it, I've started to get a bit better at the process. Over the last few weeks I've been trying to...

Re: Mini Cooper Diesel Convertible.
My wife has been complaining that this car kept cutting out since she got her new job. Fault code reading it came back clear. Reading online it looked likely to be either the fuel filter, injectors or egr valve. Great i thought, huge bill coming. Then I thought id try driving it. Turns out the car i...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
Looking at it again this morning now the epoxy has had time to set it is slightly wavey in the one place, but its more a case of just needing to perfect the filler edge on the seam. Filling has got to be the worst job ever invented.

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
The one on my jag was only a few months old and a Bosch, yet it still suffered total failure about 2months after the gearbox started to play up. As soon as it was replaced all issues went away.

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
Ive found with both my Volvo and Jag, a battery that was starting to fail caused all sort of gripes, with the jag it caused the gearbox to go into limp mode yet still started ok, and with the Volvo the keyless start was a lot less responsive. In both cases a new battery cured all the issues.

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
I'm really going to try and curb the spending, now. Hopefully I will resist the temptation at least for a while, to buy anymore parts, but I want the van to look as close to new as I can. The photos to be fair do make the quarters look a bit better, than in the flesh, however the lad I work with says ...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
It never ceases to amaze me when it comes to electrics effecting cars. I dont think id of ever found the wash wipe relay being the issue though, as it just doesn't make sense. Lets hope this is the end of problems with the Vectra as you've spent so much on it recently.

Despite trying my best to avoid spending I've recently picked up a few more items for the project. The first was a set of 8 original wheel trims incase I ever break or lose the ones I've already got. https://i.postimg.cc/tJHhPCX4/20240505-080729.jpg They will need refurbishing but have long been obs...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2
I've spent the last couple of weeks guide coating then flattening down the shell. I'm still not totally happy with the rear edges of the quarter panels. They are getting there but will probably be a few more sessions until they are totally sorted. https://i.postimg.cc/ZRBTL7vn/20240505-100852.jpg ht...

I totally agree with Robsey, where I used to go to school, they've just spent a fortune installing non gender specfic toilets?!? Surely this money could of been better spent in other areas? In reference to Envoy Cdx, the job offer has been received via email( I guess this is the modern equivalent of...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
We get this happen quite often at my work, for some reason on about half the satnavs the postcode takes them to another industrial estate about 3 miles away in a different village yet the carriers still deliver it there and unfortunately at the unit that has the same number as our a load of non Engl...
