Re: car revs too high on idle

Thanks, car does still pulse from 1.2k to 2.5k now but doesn't get up to 3k anymore. Got the temp sensor today although will have to wait for the weekend now to fit it. will give me an excuse to try to find where a little trickle of coolant leaks out of the front of the radiator somewhere too unless...

Re: car revs too high on idle

Checked over air pipes, found a scale like crack / pertrusion in the back of the maf case from something. Has been patched over with a puncture repair and gaffer tape. Wasn't sure about whether the ribs on the air hose to throttle body so put a load of bycicle glue in all the cracks there to see if ...

Re: car revs too high on idle

will take all the air pipes off and have a proper look. Isn't there a test you can do with your hand over the oil filler cap? If there is no suction then there is a vacuum leak, or has somebody just made that up...... >Think is something to do with the camshaft area breather hose to throttle body on...

Re: car revs too high on idle

Pretty sure hoses are all fine, not sure about induction that's a pipe that goes before the air filter isn't it? Also, sometimes when ignition first goes on, the rev counter pulses to about 2.5k then back to zero before the engine goes on. Sometimes it wants to idle at 3k, sometimes will pulse betwe...

car revs too high on idle

Hi folks, Well, after getting my car back from the garage after the engine wouldnt rev enough at idle for the shit to move below 2.5k, now it pulses on idle at between 1.2 and 2.5k revs!!! Not only that, but sometimes it idles slowly from whatever revs i pull the clutch out from up to 3k revs at jun...

Re: Heater Stopped Working

Not sure if it helps but on mine (heater resistor was kaput but still got fan speeds 3 and 4) the actual on-off wheel went stiff on setting 3 once and as I pushed it down, (not too hard but enough to notice a bit of extra resistance from the notch) the heater completely stopped working and all I did...

Re: Car cuts out while driving

Got the car back finally. Got a new distributor, plug leads and 02 sensor which has sorted it out. No more hesitation at getting above idle and having absolutely no power until 3k revs, then getting all at once. In other news, why are maf sensors so expensive? The car runs fine when driving now but ...

Re: Car cuts out while driving

The EML bulb does work, it just doesn't light up when the car cuts out. Has a brand new icv, the garage said they were going to check the timing today (i'm assuming the cam sensor will get looked at too here if they have an oscilloscope thingy) as well as the exhaust, they said the 02 sensor might b...

Re: Car cuts out while driving

Is in the garage now, the mechanic thinks it's sucked a bit of shit in from the petrol tank or it could be the throttle position sensor or something. When I ring to check up on it tomorrow, will ask to get the cat in the boot fitted. All I know is it's a good job I'm not going on holiday at the end ...

Re: Ecotec CDX Runabout

Bought my current car to have the Aircon and ended up selling the green car to put towards a deposit on a house as was a little short. Would have kept it and had 2 cars as was working for a company using pool vans you had to pick up from the workshop which they didn't like you driving at weekends if...

Re: Car cuts out while driving

Well, changed the fuel filter, didn't take the Pump out but got somebody to listen to it while the engine was cutting out but it was still giving a constant tone. The old fuel filter was fine. Wiring to pump was 12.4v. Car seems worse for some reason now. Ticks over mostly ok, still splutters a bit ...

Re: Car cuts out while driving

Thanks, didn't think of that, I have a spare cat too. Have had a look for vaccum leaks (car ticks over o.k most the time) and can't find any and put a new egr valve on and it has also had a new maf sensor in the last few months (cheap one off eBay). Have also read some old posts saying to check the ...

Re: Car cuts out while driving

Oh, and if it helps diagnose the problem a little better, I seem to get more power at 2.5k revs but the car won't go higher than 4.5k.
Weird or what?

Car cuts out while driving

Hi guys, On idle my car kind of keeps cutting out and then back in again and while driving it does it too. At junctions I have to keep my foot down to get enough revs to move, making me look like an idiot and while driving along have to keep my Foot down to stop slowing down too much up hills and th...

Re: Supreme Unleaded - Yes or No?

I heard the high octane fuels are 15% bio ethanol which burns hotter than normal petrol. Usually fuel is 3% bio ethanol if I remember correctly but different fuel companies like to tweak their fuel about differently to eachother anyway. Best fuel for older cars (from before the days of bio fuel) wou...

How much to keep those M.O.T's valid?

Was wondering how much your cars cost to keep on the road? I use mechanics generally at £45 an hour with VAT added on everything so this could be why i'm finding repairs a bit expensive. That's why I don't have an old Renault, the thing would hardly be out of the garage. Just spent £550 having an al...

Seemed to remember there being a thread for odometer photos after reading this one a short while back. Maybe someone could kick one off? Still couldn't get my hand up enough to pull the cable off but did manage to twist the instrument panel enough to get out the bulb. Re: battery light bulb;

Thanks, Wasn't sure whether the cable needed to twist off or there was some extra clips somewhere other than the one in the photo. Would have replaced all the bulbs seeing as i'm getting to them anyway but at £2.50 each this would be quite expensive plus there isn't a lot of stock out there. Shame I...
