Re: Jaguar 2.2D SE Auto.

Yes, deleting the simple functional dipstick and replacing it with an electronic gauge must be one of the stupidist things that modern car designers have done. For a start, when you change the oil you can't tell when you've added enough without first starting the engine, then stopping it to reset th...

Re: Apparent MAF Fault

I've now made the trunking fit - mainly by twisting the steel breather tube so it had better alignment with the rubber breather pipe from the crankcase that it connects to. This allowed the main trunking to sit at a better angle, and I then was able to connect it first to the throttle body and then ...

Re: Apparent MAF Fault

Well, the new trunking to connect the MAF sensor to the throttle body on my V6 has finally arrived - I think Roose Motorsport must make these items to order. Unfortunately, it doesn't really fit. Because it has no corrugations it isn't very flexible and is also slighly the wrong shape. So it seems a...

Quote: "How can they say it's 100% renewable green energy" It seems all the electricity supply companies are offering what they claim to be 100% renewable electricity as an option, and you see people rather smuggly quoting that that is what they are getting, so they are helping to "sa...

I've just seen a picture in the press of a a BP site in Kent (probably on the M2) showing £2.07 for diesel and £1.84 for petrol!!

That's a palindromic mileage! I think the next one will be at 175571, and then 176671 and so on. So not all that rare, unlike calendar dates when the just gone 22-02-2022 was quite unusual.

Fuel Prices getting out of hand

£1.66/litre for E5 super unleaded is a bargain!! At my local (out in the sticks) fuel station it is now £1.69/litre for Esso E5 Supreme. I've also just had to order some more heating oil and that was £0.87/litre - the highest it's ever been. When I started buying it (admittedly back in the 1980s) it...

Re: Apparent MAF Fault

Ah well that make me feel a little bit better about the £140 or so that I've just dropped on the induction pipe kit! This does at least include the pipes each side of the MAF sensor with one of them including a temperature sensor and the other a rather good looking stainless steel connector for the ...

Re: Apparent MAF Fault

Induction air hose kit ordered from Roose Motorsport, though I've gone for conservative black to match the MAF sensor. It was, as I feared, eye-wateringly expensive but it looked as though I had no choice with no original parts available. Will report back when i get it and have fitted it.

Re: Apparent MAF Fault

OK thanks, that is certainly the one I need - though without the corrugations of the original part. I suppose the material is more flexible. I've previously sourced the odd shaped top radiator hose for the V6 from Roose. They are eye wateringly expensive but I guess needs must. I'll try them.

Thank you for putting me onto Samco and I have contacted them to see if they can help. So, also, if anyone has a new or used one of these lyin...

Apparent MAF Fault

The engine warning light on my '93 Cav V6 started flashing on, then immediately off, as I was driving. I did the paper clip test and this showed "mass airflow meter low voltage". This got me looking online for MAFs and they are still available for the V6 engine - but with prices varying wi...

A bit of WD40 sprayed around the edge of the switch might free it off so it latches again, and save the hassle of removing it.

Regarding Halfords look up tables for spares, anti-freeze, engine oil etc and the absence of the Cavalier from these. I've found that these tables do still include the Calibra, which of course has exactly the same mechanicals as the Cavalier. Halfords sell two types of antifreeze - the blue silicate...

Re: M Plate 1.8LS Saloon

When you get the new steering arm adjusters it'll be worth greasing the threads with something like copaslip and then, when finally adjusted, covering them with underseal (like Hammerite Underbody) so they don't seize again. I did this years ago on my Cav and I'm very glad I did - they are still fre...

Re: Klarius exhausts

Yes, Klarius does look as though the can supply Cavalier exhausts that fit, even quoting the original GM part numbers on their webiste. However, I was disappointed with the back box I got from them for my Cav V6. This is a specific desgn for the V6 and it did indeed look like the original rusty one ...

I got a back box for my Cav V6 from Klarius. I knew the V6 back box was a specific design not shared with other Cavs and ordered the Klarius one that was supposedly for the V6. When it arrived it looked simialr to the old one but when I fitted it would not mount high enough to clear the rear axle be...

B&Q sell interlocking rubber tiles that can be laid loose on concrete garage floors - these make getting down and under cars MUCH more comfortable - and warmer. You do have to protect them with a sheet of wood when positioning jacks or axles stands but this is a minor inconvenience against the v...

Re: Matts CDX - Work In Progress.

Petrol tanks for the Cavalier are indeed very hard to find - and they do rust quite badly on the top where water accumulates between tank and car body. So a secondhand tank sourced from a scrapyard is likely to be terminally rusty also. The tank on my V6 started leaking when it was full beyond the h...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse

Thanks Robsey. I did try a search for Angel Eyes and they are still available for the Vectra A/Cavalier Mk3 from a Dutch vendor and a German vendor. Prices range from 180 to 200 Euros, plus carriage (and no doubt import taxes now we've left the EU). So I'm struggling to justify the expense! Amazon a...
