Re: 2001 Volvo S60 - The Daily Driver
You should not feel intimidated by them. It is the same for any car part. If serviced and maintained properly, a turbo will give a long reliable service. Our 1.9 CDTi is approaching 195,000 miles (319,000 km), and the turbo is still working quite happily. I guess it it just the same problem as with...

Re: 2001 Volvo S60 - The Daily Driver
Of the Swedish makes, I think Volvo is far better than the Saab. Volvos have some big engines, so can be quite thirsty. The LPG / Autogas will definitely be a life saver for your bank balance. ----------------- I read somewhere that since GM took over Saab in the mid-90's, the vehicles are not very...

2001 Volvo S60 - The Daily Driver
I thought it would be fitting to introduce the "Vectra replacement" which is this - https://i.imgur.com/AchTCEJ.jpeg A 2001 Volvo S60, 5 speed manual gearbox with "spaceball" shifer, 2.4 litre 170 horsepower 5 cylinder petrol engine with an LPG conversion. As I said I am not a sm...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
After looking at this thread and all of my "well the car is garbage and is going to get scrapped/sold" episodes I think it's about time for a more serious update. As you can see the car is still with us. Why? Well... for starters I probably listed it for a bit too much... but I guess that ...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
Replaced the fuel hose today, omitted the damper and I can't say that I see any difference. I guess placebo makes me feel like the car idles a little bit better, but I can't say for certain. It's definitely not any worse than before, so I guess I won't be using that damper. Just have to get my impa...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
Do you know how old your fuel hose is? Anything more than 5 years old could crack and split from age-related deterioration. Especially if using old fuel hose with fuel containing ethanol. I will see what I can find out from TIS. UPDATE :- TIS tells me only how to remove and refit the damper. Lookin...

Here is what it says in paragraph 18 of the Fuel Injection chapter of Haynes. https://i.postimg.cc/FKszsyVD/Screenshot-20240128-190304-Acrobat-for-Samsung.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/x1Pq2xMX/Screenshot-20240128-190357-Acrobat-for-Samsung.jpg Yes, I read that but well... is "reducing noise" ...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
Welcome back everyone, I have a quick question, before you ask, yes, the vectra is still with me but I will make a bigger update, probably near the summer. My question is - is the fuel flow damper located on the fuel pump assembly required? I heard that it is kinda prone to failing after so many yea...

Re: 1993 Cavalier Project, 2.0 GLS AUTO, Restoration Work & Start Of Full Black Respray
There is actually a version of the GSi bumper without fog light "holes". It is very, very rare though, I don't remember which prospect it was in, but it does exist. I don't think it is officially called "GSi" though. You can maybe try and replicate something like that?

Re: Does anyone have pics of a cavalier resprayed Arden Blue?
I think the colour of user jgwilliamson's Cavalier is very similar to Arden Blue, here is a picture I picked out from his album on google drive:

Looks fairly similar to me, maybe not ideal but very close.

Re: Grundig SC303 Radio cassette - how to remove facia
When I was refurbishing my SC303 (an earlier model though) I actually used an old laptop keyboard as a "repair kit". What I did is I took the little post that's in the middle of the old hardened rubber plungers in the radio, cut out the membrane plungers from the laptop keyboard, put the l...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
Some sad news today. This moment had to come sooner or later because of the situation I am in currently. The car has been put up for sale. A replacement for it has been bought and it's finally time to part with the old Vectra. It has been very fun going through all of this with you guys and I am unb...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
Well, I didn't have time to do anything with the wipers but as it always is with this car the issue had to become even worse to demand some attention from me. After a bit of a spirited drive in the rain the wipers stop in the middle of the windscreen. They of course make the whole cycle when wiping,...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
It sounds like the wiper relay is sticking. Releasing too late. I had this on my Ascona-C (Cavalier mk2). Does it make a squawking noise just before the wiper stops? Relay chatter, trying to release. Not sure if it was intermittent wipe only... It is a few years since I had that car. It stopped whe...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
Hello! It's been a while. The car is actually doing pretty good, apart from some thermostat problems and a slow coolant leak. Passed its inspection yesterday though. But a new problem has appeared. The wipers don't park in the proper spot anymore but around 10cm higher. So they don't hide on the bot...

Re: Cavaliers in the snow
We had some almost knee deep snow, and my Vectra being my daily driver I have no choice but to drive it. I can't really say much about the traction because my tires are on their last legs and this will definitely be their last season. But it did manage to get up my snow covered driveway, though it d...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
The Vectra is back on the road now, finally. It has new springs, some metal welded in the boot coated in Gray Hammerite, some more metal welded on the rear suspension mounts and a lot of rust-proofing. Of course being the car that it is, it had to give something in return - a probably stuck thermost...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
This is pretty awkward.... but.... Some things happened. My mechanic pulled some strings and found some more people that could help me with this rust-bucket. One guy declined as he was busy for the next couple of months. The second guy told me that this is a lot of work and money. So my mechanic got...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
I need to learn to be less optimistic. I, unfortunately, have some terrible news. The car is goong to be scrapped. Yes, you read that right. I am completely devastated and angry because of this. The story is pretty much that the only people in my location who do bodywork at acceptable prices either ...

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
I compliment this car too much. Why? Because pretty much everytime I say something about reliability or it being overall nice, bad things happen. I've had a intermittent clunking noise in the rear suspension, but I forgot about it during the summer, it disappeared and I was happy. It came back aroun...

Re: Re: Vectra-B Remote Central Locking - Discussion
I have a Kiekert remote central locking ECU. What would I need to make it blink the hazards and maybe sound the horn when locking/unlocking? Would I need to route any wires out of the interior or is this avoidable?

Re: 1989 Opel Vectra GT
So... update. Filled out 2 items from my list, subwoofer and muffler. The sub is as I said before an SPL slim unit which sits nicely below the drivers seat (most likely gonna relocate it to the passenger seat as it's kinda annoying). It gives the much needed bass response without being too obnoxious...
