1.8 Auto gear 'selector' refurb/replace...

Hi guys, sorry not been on here much lately. Hope every ones ok.... :wave I hope this all makes sense…. My old 1.8 auto has always had a problem when selecting 1st gear. By this I mean the car goes into limp mode and the flashing ‘S’ appears on the dash. Only 1st gear, but recently, occasionally, ha...

AF22 auto box Cav 1995 2.5 V6 - flashing S and wont start..

HI guys, trying to help a friend here.... selector switch identified as problem and the only guide they have is this diagram to 'adjust' it which looks like its been translated 'literally' from another language. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50094167542_7669c3a4a1_k.jpg Untitled by CaptainTimb...

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Yeah it took a bit of fiddling to get off; but all fitted perfectly, and no rattles! Very happy with the result as never done that myself. Shame that my 'mate' couldn't just do that with all the £700 i spent on the major service, if I can do it with just ramps and a spanner and some WD40

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

After a big dig around and comparison, I'm really annoyed my mate said that my exhaust didn't fit when having all the major service items done. I checked and checked all the part numbers. So borrowed some ramps and did it myself yesterday. Now, if I can do it on my own with a spanner and some WD40 w...

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Yeah it was gross lol. Looked liked someone (and I had a car before that this happened too) they'd put the oil in the washer bottle :wall Small tiny detail I know - but new side indicator seals. Sounds sad I know but all about the little details... Were a bit whitey when I fitted them, but then 20/2...

Hi guys - hope everyone's well? :-) Windows still a mystery but when everything's calmed down I'm just going to get a new switch. Been busy doing other little jobs though. Been dreading exploring this corner but wasn't as bad as I thought it may have been. Not the best repair but at the moment will ...

Thanks mate

No I haven't got anything like that to test it - plus I wouldn't have a clue what I'm doing any ways.

Thought I'd ask just in case I'm missing some thing really obvious lol

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

I removed a damaged strip cleanly by spraying with wd40, leaving 20 mins then going along it from the top with a plastic spatula, spraying repeatedly. Took about an hour easing off and regularly respraying, time consuming but worth it luckily as most of the foam tape stuck to the trim. I've kept it...

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

No - that's what I meant. Someone obviously screwed it together after the trim had been bent slightly.

God the normal glue/stripes are like rock! lol

Not looking forward to another 3 hours just to get the rest of the glue off still stuck to the door

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

I can now see why a few people have said how lucky I was to find the door trim in such good condition... apart from being screwed in (obviously after the scrape) I couldn't get it off for love nor money! https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49707664041_20257dec9f_k.jpg Untitled by CaptainTimbo , on F...

I get unnecessarily nervous going under a car with jacks and stands etc. Under a ramp I'm fine lol. That's why I hate changing tyres

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

He more a body shop tbh, but he does have an ex BMW mech working there who supposed to cover servcing etc. Thing is though unless you drive a slammed BMW - your right down on the pecky list.

Body work wise he spot on but I wont be going back for anything more.
