Re: Al Murrays multiple personality disorder.

Alf is another prime example, it would appeal to that older generation with that kind of view, in a "right on" kind of way, but whatever the previous generation expression was for that. My grandparent on one side were like that Alf mentality, not stupid, just jst very racist in private. Re...

Re: Al Murrays multiple personality disorder.

I heard him on radio 4 once talking about stuff, the pub landlord was deliberately made to appeal to the lower classes, and to mock them without realising it. When they asked if he was worried they'd find out the reply was well they are not the kind of people that would ever listen to radio 4.

Re: Front wing removal

Is there some sort of glue on the top edge of the wing in the engine bay part, or is that a different car I'm thinking of.

Re: Why are interviewers so rude?

When my daughter was 17, she worked for Tescos in the the evening while at college. They offer 3 month job experience work, but paid £12 an hour for till work, and even paid that for 2 shifts of trainng at the start.

At the time I did think that's not a bad wage for what they do.

Re: Why are interviewers so rude?

*Kids - not a detrimental term, but when staff are becoming 'managers' at 23/24 are they really in a position to be a manager, life experience counts for a lot in terms of being empathetic / sympathetic and being able to deal with individuals in an appropriate manner. **Manage - either got there by...

Re: Why are interviewers so rude?

I've never been in a big firm or chain, generally always smaller companies that specialise in area I work in. So when I interview the person is as important as the skills due to the small team and need to know they can work and get along with things. Hotels, especially london, seems to just hire rud...

You're not that far from me, I'm in ayrshire, just south of glasgow. The problem is finding time right now, between work and getting stuff done in the house, and for kids and family, doesn't leave a lot of free time.

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems

No, the tech1 couldn't identify the wire, just tell you the fault and possible the live engine speed might show something off, but not as detailed as identifying wires. I'm not sure many garages would want to look at it, potentially charging as much as the car means they'll know you might just say n...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems

tech1 can show live data too, but not much help if it's not running. At most you'll get code 31 or 19 (or 0340 or 0335 ... whatever the 4 digit code is).

Re: Cavalier V6 alternator cooling fan

The single wire sensor on the water bridge is gauge sensor. on the side, points toward the battery.

The alt fan sensor is really a switch, off/on. All the relays that control them are in the black box at the bulkhead passenger side.

Re: Cavalier V6 alternator cooling fan

It's a really complex bit of wiring, and to add to the fun, the circuit with aircon is completely different to the non-aircon. I used to know it off the top of my head as I done the wiringon aquite a few v6 conversions - where the wiring simply doesn't exist. The water bridge sensor (brown/yellow) c...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems

The resistance doesn't change when metal moves in front of it. It will generate a voltage, a pulsed voltage, so that will potentially mess up the ohms readings. The best option is to fit the sensor, connect an oscilloscope type device, and then measure while cranking. I think it's kind of gone beyon...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems

Is it the right one, because there were some changes made to them that needed connectors cut off.

Then for the v6, I know the omega crank sensor looks identical, a few digits off in the part number and it gave an ecu error (code 19), but cav/calibra v6 sensor gave no error.

It wont be 10 ohm, just below what the meter can meater accurately. Anywhere between 20 and 0 ohns would probably give similar.

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems

You can do a comparison, not a proper test, but if you had a good loom/ecu then you can measure each pin to ground, and to each other.

But without a good loom/ecu then you'll not know what the reading should be.

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems

The ecu itself could be faulty, it's not unknown for them to just go bad.

The engine earths are another obscure one that gives very odd effects, make sure they are all good and clean.
