Well from what i read, the ECU adapts to your driving style after a couple of hunded miles if it's been disconnected. Says so in the Haynes manual. So if you reconnect it, then drive around, eventually it will get itself operating as usual, learning the essentials, engine speed, road speed, intake ...

ok thanks ,,what if i disconnect the ecu i have pull the plug out take it off try another,,if it dont work will mine go back on ok,,i mean diconnecting wont loose its memory,,i suppose its only like dicoing the battery :mrgreen:

heres somthin you may know if i stick an ecu on the car im told it needs programing,do you know if its because of the immobilizer?? :scratch

only reason is i bypassed the immobilizer to fit an after market alarm you see

that is on the cards,,im going to try as a very last resort,EGR from scrappers,,cant source a blanking plate,an ecu if i can source the same one,scrappers quoted £15 if they have one and a cheap lambda,,though the lambda doesnt kick in till the engine is warm,so wont explain the rough start from col...

Hey craggles, just though. Have you checked the intake valves? You mentioned the EGR valve, but what if one of the main 8 valves are blocked up? It happens, so you never know. Just a thought :wave intake valves as in the ones in the head mate? nothing is just a thought bud,,im open to any suggestio...

hi mate thanks for your input,,mine is the single point injection model,,i checked through all the pipework on the car,,im 90% sure its in the engine itself,,so the head is coming of it next week for a look as to why cylinder 4 is lower on compression,as a last resort im goin to try and source an EC...

LOL yeah if i know ill mess with it over and over and it will just sort itself,,what makes me work at it so hard with this car is peoples comments on the condition of it,well mainly MOT stations..

Well just if anyone wants to know,,so far the car is running rough only in the morning now,,i changed the SPI unit today as i took the car to my mates works and it is blowing black smoke so over fueling it think,is that the reason for it starting rough in the morn,weting the plugs up maybe.. anyway ...

well that would sound almost like faulty injectors or fuel pump. Tried giving her a nice long run with plenty of fuel additive? have you checked any of your inlet/breather hoses to make sure they arent clogged with cak?
