I know the cav is going to be a juggle, I'm suspicious that there is a lot moving about down there, bushes are the easiest place to start.

Polybushes
I'd like to stiffen the ride on the Diplomat and remove the comedy body roll. I don't really want to consider lowering it, to keep the comfortable ride. First place I want to look is polybushes. Is there any no-no's with poly bushes on the Cav? On the mk2 Astra poly bushes on the front wishbone dama...

Another very small win tonight.. After changing the lockset last week, the Migweb SC guys commented that the boot opened almost to the point of hitting the rear screen, and that there was rubber buffers missing that should stop this.. Re: My work horse
It would not be a Cavalier / Vectra-A if the rocker / cam cover gasket did not leak and if the clutch pedal did not squeek. Ha ha, thats so true.. When I swapped from my Mk2 cav to the Mk3 in the late 90's, I happened to coment that the clutch pedal was squeaking. Network Q man said hed have it sor...

Managed to get a whole day on it today. First up, as it was pouring with rain, Clean, colour and condition the backseats. Not as bad, but still worn.. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad333/scidaman/Cav/oh%20dear/CIMG5428.jpg Three hours later.. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad333/scidaman/Ca...

How lovely and clean is that? Niice..
If you suspect it has an exhaust or manifold leak, sort it out and you may well find the smell in the cabin disappears too.. Any leak or fumes in the engine bay will be coming into the cabin through heater box.

I'm just using a sheet of self adhesive stuff found on E-bay for a couple of quid Dave.

Different direction tonight.. I wanted to attend to the seats before they went back, the drivers in particular, http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad333/scidaman/Cav/oh%20dear/CIMG5403.jpg First thing was to strip off the runners (carefully!) http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad333/scidaman/Cav/oh%...

Re: Return to a Cavalier - Satin Red Diplomat.
Cheers Super.. I'm rather looking forward to it, the Insignia is taking all the normal mileage at the moment, and the idea was to keep the miles off it to improve trade in. I've still got the Astra for Kicks, but it's not an 'all occasion' car really.. Started the day today with a little work up fro...

Over the last week, I've been slowly starting to reassemble stuff.. Re: Return to a Cavalier - Satin Red Diplomat.
Good spot on the photos Troy, and thanks for the idea. I'd assumed that the old HG was leaking a bit of oil into number 4. If the HG has to be replaced, I'll have another look. As I'm getting 'heat' about the entire Cav interior in the conservatory, I'm going to slowly start putting it back together...

Re: Return to a Cavalier - Satin Red Diplomat.
Thanks Troy. The Matrix that blew was the original GM part, the replacement certainly is an aftermarket part. I've got two scenarios floating round my head. First is a blocked matrix - the resulting back pressure blew it. Second (and more likely in my opinion) is that the HG has failed. Block test w...

At the end of last week I whipped the plugs out to see if there was any evidence of one lug looking different to indicate a problem. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad333/scidaman/Cav/oh%20dear/CIMG5251.jpg Nowt that I can see. Thanks. I was going to do a compression test. Looked up block test, and realised it was far more appropriate. Block tester is now on its way from ebay.

So, During the evenings last week I started Stripping Stuff.. First was the very poorly Radio Cassette. Sooo.. For the last week or so Dippy has had real trouble revving, she wouldn't rev over 4.5k, and even heavy throttle resulted in jerking at low revs. I suspected a fuel delivery issue. Last night I went out to attack the old fuel filter.. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad333/scidaman/Cav/oh%20...

No photos this time, just an update. Since I bought Dippy, the A/C has been non functioning. Fearing the worst, I arrived at todays Mig SC mince with three condesors. As the system was totally empty, it had to have a leak somewhere right? Wrong! Pete's vacuum pump put a decent vacuum on the system, ...

Another bit of mincing with Dan and Pete today.. After Last week's head gasket swap, we changed the oil and filter, even though they were just over a month old, so that anything washed down through the engine from the HG change got flushed out. Next, the Sump plate was dropped off the gearbox. The O...

Mark, If I get anywhere, I'll see if the guy I have a lead on is open to reprogramming others, and at what cost. On to this weekend.. No real work to report. Re: Return to a Cavalier - Satin Red Diplomat.
It's been a week since it had it's epic Migweb South Central visit. It nearly didn't happen, as it dropped me about 3 miles from home, stuttered, stopped, no restart. After about 1/2 hour waiting for a recovery truck, I decided to give it a go, and she spluttered back into life. A mile further down ...

Thanks for all the votes of confidence gents, it's really satisfying to be saving it from a slow demise, which is enhanced by the good vibes. Tonight I had a success.. After a few hairy moments and some deep breaths, I got the old Stud drilled out and tapped an M8 thread back in there.. It's now got...
