Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

I presume you are making masking tape templates to get the correct positions of the side-repeater holes. Like you do for making up repair panels to match holes cut into the body to remove rusty bits. Personally ill just be accurately measuring the centre of the holes and after centre bopping ill th...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

In the second picture the bonnet gap looks a little wide, this will be adjusted once I fit the Near side wing back on, but a lot of it is down to a trick of the camera. The next job is going to be drilling the indicator and ariel hole once my blacksmith drill bits arrive as there isn't enough streng...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

Have had an absolute nightmare fitting the wing to the van. Still if anybody wants to know how you remove and refit a mk2 Astra front wing then ask me as I must be the world expert now the amount of times that I've had it on and off to try and get it to fit! After an awful lot of adjustment includin...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

The early bumpers were always prone to fading to a pale shade of grey. The best treatment to darken them, was a gentle controlled blow-over with a hot air gun. I had a D plate Cav mk2 - it's bumpers responded well to heat treatment. I tried the hot air gun originally on my bumpers but, sadly it did...

Re: My VERY RUSTY VW T25 Camper Van Project

Fitting stuff on backwards is easy to do, can be frustrating if you've spent hours trying to get to line up. I remember the days when cars used to always come with vents from the exhaust to the carb, some even used to have a flap that you manually flipped over in the winter and summer to switch on o...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

Spotted this, I know its a petrol but have you seen the price estimate? This example is the very base model with blanked clock, radio , and vinyl seats and floor covering. Plus there's no heated rear screen or wash wipe. https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-303---1988-bedford-astra/?lot=2128...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

I was hoping with the lack of indicator and ariel hole it was from at least a different pressing, the bottom edge where it meets the sill is definitely slightly different to the previous pattern wing. In reference to what you say about my next project, you know what you can do... This will definitel...

Re: Matts CDX - Work In Progress.

When I was in my teens I purchased a Honda Prelude that had suffered with Cambelt failure. When I popped the head off at first glance everything looked fine, it was only on closer inspection that you could see a very slight bend in about 3 valves. As I was a skint student I obtained another head tha...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

On Monday my pattern new wing arrived, having been ordered on the 27th December! Who knows where it had been since then, I'm guessing it was the usual case of an ebay seller simply not bothering to send it! https://i.postimg.cc/Gp2H1cMt/20240117-171644.jpg There is a couple of minor dings in it desp...

Re: Matts CDX - Work In Progress.

I was under the impression that Cavalier engines were non interference, fingers crossed that is the case, if so it'll just be a case of retiming, replacing the waterpump and tensioners and you should be good to go.

I've too been noticing that. Over Christmas views were going up virtually by the second. I guess though if the site gets a high number of views, then in turn it should come higher up the search results on Google, making it easier for people to find us.

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse

Several times a year I get pikeys knocking on my door wanting to buy the cav for scrap, even when it's tax and motd. Its hidden from view from the road so I usually ask them what they are doing poking about to see it. The last couple of times though I said yes it is for sale for £20,000. Take it or ...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

With all those disc holders, Will you be getting a retro dated tax disc to go with it? They used to do loads on fleabay many moons ago. Looks like you have more than a life-time's worth of filters there. You could afford to change the filter every quarter, nevermind annually. :) I purchased a coupl...

I did purchase a polybush kit for my van, that the seller assured me would fit, however when I came to fit it a couple of years later only about 2 would, so I went all original instead.

As always over Christmas I have a good hunt for items for the Van. This year there wasn't much out there, but I did manage to buy a job lot of 23 fuel filters, all bar 2 are genuine. https://i.postimg.cc/cJ2WVKyQ/20240107-120130.jpg Another little trinket that I found was these 3 period Auto windscr...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

Over Christmas I spotted a new genuine rear wiper motor so bought it. I still love receiving things in original packaging. I have also fitted the new front wiper blades, and end caps, however the supplier for some reason sent the rear blade to fit a mk2 Zafria?!? https://i.postimg.cc/qRwTkZ2s/202401...

That Phillips radio code sticker is certainly a blast from the past! Used to see them on just about every other car. I always find the bushes to be a bit of abugger to fit, usually I warm them up first in boiling water, then with a bit of lube they usually slip over easier.

Re: Stuff we've seen on the road

Saw this lovey looking MK1 Astra estate in Hereford this morning. Apart from a bit of MIS matched https://i.postimg.cc/9XNsZcSS/IMG-20200926-113226.jpg paint on the rear quarter it was nearly immaculate. This has just turned up on ebay again for the 2nd time since I spotted it Ebay number: 18623029...

I was looking for an easy job today so thought I'd turn my attention to clean up the front window glass. As you can see they were pretty grubby. https://i.postimg.cc/3NXp26sk/20240101-171854.jpg After the obligatory glass cleaner I gave some autoglym glass polish a go. https://i.postimg.cc/rFgjb0HK/...

Titivating the wiper arms is a quick and simple thing to do... and does make a huge visual difference. The littlest things can make a huge impression. I am jealous of your progress this week. I have not touched the Cavalier or T3 this week. All work and no play makes Robsey a dull boy. It's only a ...

I only had one for a short time, couldn't keep up with its thirst for petrol. Was a bit like driving a block of flats on wheels both in terms of space and handling. It was one from 1983, with an fm radio and a Swankey tape deck that auto flipped to the other side of the tape when you got to the end....

After calling in a favour or two ive managed to source a sensor for £140. Just waiting for a dry day to fit it now. Went to pick up my wife from work, and thought I detected a little vibration driving the last mile. Looked round and found the one tire totally flat. Tried to undo the wheel nuts to pu...
