Re: 3.0 Supercav!

love all the work going into this cav, top job mate, I can appreiciate all the work that went in the floor pan etc, as I spent weeks in a cold damp garage doing the same to my cav turbo, its hard work at the time but well worth doing, keep up the excellent work mate Ads Cheers ads! I've got a day o...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Nice work, I wish I had a removable battery tray on my V6, damn thing gets in the way! Yeah, it's taken me a while to get around to it, but I'm glad I did as it was always in the way on the last V6. Adjusting up the clutch was a half hour job and always resulted in skinned knuckles! Part of me want...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

That looks impressive and I have always wanted a bolt in battery tray in the cav! Looking smart that engine bay! :) Cheers Gary. :thumb The bolt in battery tray wasn't too hard to do. In hindsight I could have got away with keeping the original Cav tray and bracket, and just using some of the holes...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Made a bit more progress on this over the weekend. Finally (after about a year!) got my MIG welder put back together (it now has a new CO2 regulator and a Euro torch - much better!), so I was able to weld up my removable battery tray, made from a Vecra B tray and part of the old bracket, as on its l...

Been doing some odd jobs on the Cav, in amongst some other jobs. Re: 3.0 Supercav!

So yesterday I cracked on with the horrible job of undersealing the car with underbody shutz. I spent more time masking off beforehand and tidying up afterwards than I actually did putting the damn stuff on (including a trip to Machine Mart as I ran short of shutz before I'd finished!), but it's don...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Right, finally got round to doing some on this. After putting it off for ages, I got cracking cleaning the underside up. It wasn't too bad as I'd had the car steam cleaned before taking it off the road, but under the arches were still pretty bad. Also removed all the exhaust heat sheilds as I wanted...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Whats your plan for the icv?I see you have cut the std boss out. I blanked mine off, made an ally block and welded it on the rear of the plenum above cyl5. You will need a longer servo pipe,I got one off an old corsa,1.2 iirc, perfect size and bends. I've had a spigot welded on over the egr holes, a...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Made some more progress on the Cav tonight. First off I got shot of all the horrible sound deadening off the bulkhead (that holds the water and rots the bulkhead away). Sound deadening is for strange people who don't like a V6 soundtrack! Went from this: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/himself...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Made some progress over the past few days, in amongst other stuff. Didn't get too many photos though. Removed the radiator and PAS pipework as this is knackered in places and I may well be re-routing it where the battery tray is, if I can successfully make the battery tray removable. Took a load pf ...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Made some massive progress today! The 2.5 V6 engine and box is now out of the car and ready for collection. Managed to get it out without any issues or damage to the car, didn't even bother dropping the rad out (which is a mission on the V6's due to the electric recirc pump). Even had some time to t...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Spent a fair bit of time over the Bank holiday on the car. Tedious job of cleaning and painting! First had to get all the grime off - all the nuts and bolts soaking in a bucket of vinegar! http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/himselfunknown/Supercav/28-05-2014-1_zps0dc538fe.jpg Cleaning up the engi...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Gave the engine another coat of paint yesterday evening, now it's looking a lot more repectable! Re: 3.0 Supercav!

What paint did you use that failed to prevent the surface rust? Was it straight-to-rust Hammerite? No, it was 'single coat' specialist engine paint that didn't require primer. I think where I have gone wrong is leaving it so long since painting to get the engine up to temp (the paint isn't fully cu...

This evening I made a start on the engine, which was a mix of unpacking boxes to sort out the parts of the jigsaw puzzle: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/himselfunknown/Supercav/20-05-2014-3_zps33e5ec22.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/himselfunknown/Supercav/20-05-2014-1_zps1d3bc7c3....

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

Didn't get a lot done on the car this weekend as I've been distracted by a lot of other stuff, and the carport has been like a greenhouse in the hot weather, but I did manage to get the LPG tank all but fitted. Started off with the standard view: http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/himselfunknown/...

Re: 3.0 Supercav!

I'm really quite interested in a heated screen, sounds most useful! The screen is made by a guy called Ricky in Tamworth (I can't remember his business name). He makes heated screens for loads of different cars, and was really helpful when it came to wiring it all in. He does have a few more Cav sc...

3.0 Supercav!

This is a WIP thread for my 'Supercav' (named tongue-in-cheek by a mate, and it's stuck!). The car will be all the best 'goodies' from a couple of Cavs I used to own: My old 2.5 V6 workhorse (this donated its interior, ICE, and some of the creature comforts): http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j89/hi...
