Re: The greatest driving roads
Well, there's no reason that we couldn't do another A149 coast run before the summer is out. I've done it three times in the past fortnight, stopping at different places for paddling, food and drink along the way. I'm game if you are, although I don't think I'll be in a Cavalier. The VXR will have t...

The greatest driving roads
I'm heading up to North Wales this weekend. I plan to put a 16-valve Mk2 Astra GTE through its paces on the 'Evo Triangle'. When checking the route, I found this website: http://www.greatestdrivingroads.com. It's a handy guide to some quality driving roads in and around the UK, and it got me thinkin...

Re: James' 1995 Manual CDX V6 Saloon
All modern cars are equipped with an Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system. The EVAP system prevents fuel vapours from the fuel tank from escaping into the atmosphere. The EVAP system collects and temporarily stores the fuel vapours in a charcoal canister. The charcoal canister is filled with a...

Yeah, I have a V6 throttle body that has been ported and polished, butterfly smoothed etc. I'll try to remember to post pics for you.

Re: SRi restoration project
I still maintain that it would be unreasonable to expect the layman to wade through these, after the job, and then in effect identify what was missing in order to conflict with the description "full restoration" and account for the state that it is now in. You put "full restoration&q...

Re: V6 throttle body
Any improvement over factory airflow characteristics is welcome, but you would be wise to consider an enlarged throttle body as part of an overall package of airflow improvements e.g. thoroughly clean your engine's crankcase breather system (this should be done as a routine maintenance task anyway),...

Re: Throttle body removal
Hi! Yes, it is an easy enough job. You just need to remove the engine cover, airbox pipework and ICV pipework. Worth investing in a throttle body to inlet manifold gasket first, however, as if your car is still making use of its original part, then there is every change that it will deteriorate duri...

The new issue of Straight Six News arrived on my doorstep this morning. There's a nice pic of your V6 included in the magazine's VBOA National Rally coverage.

What's wrong with the Z20LET head? If you're going to all this trouble, why can't you get a replacement Z20LET head or repair yours? There are lots of them around!

Woollarding
I might be a bit slow on the uptake here, but I've only just heard about 'Woollarding'! For those of you also living in the Dark Ages, this is the internet phenomenon that kicked off a couple of years ago whereby car owners take photos of themselves replicating the classic pose that 'proper' Top Gea...

Re: James' 1995 Manual CDX V6 Saloon
On the plus side, the knock sensor is easy enough to fix, although IIRC, the required routing of the wiring means that it needs to go in and around the alternator in order to be protected by the rear heat shield. I replaced the same part on my V6, was an 'under the car (and lots of swearing)' job.

Re: Stylistics
IMHO, the GTC VXR is stunning, as is the R35 GT-R. Every manufacturer has good and bad examples of styling, but these cars are superb. As for your point about BMW, I have to disagree with you. They've produced some stunning designs, but a lot of their cars are very 'meh' of late. https://i.ytimg.com...

Yeah, it's what I use too. Not as much pressure as a million quid Nilfisk might deliver, but for £48 it really is very good value.

Re: humbucker's 2007 Vectra VXR
VXR ownership is a blast! The Vectra is a fantastic machine that pulls like a train and has a rear end that produces smile-inducing Remus-generated pops and bangs on demand. The car looks fantastic and seems to be enjoying being pampered with frequent oil changes and accelerated service intervals. h...

Is it a requirement to change the dryer when replacing the condenser? I've just bought a new condenser for my MV6 (update to follow) and thought I might be able to use the old dryer. I'm not so convinced now that I've seen your post and had a scout around other forums for info. Only about £30 for th...
