Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Indeed, slowly getting round to doing this and that to tidy it up. Managed to get a replacement electric pass. door mirror, so have been respraying that as well as rubbing down a CDX bumper I also got recently from the same seller. My eight alloys are still waiting for progress as I am currently in ...

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Removed rear reflector panel and DA polished the rear paintwork just to try and remove some of the scratches. Replaced panel and added new reg plate.
Replacement steering rack being sourced.

Thank goodness you found the solution - it's always annoying when you've tried all those different things and suddenly something you try on the off chance works!

Cheers - I had a feeling it was going to be rack related. Now to hunt for a replacement.

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
I grabbed the centre where both track rods join the steering race and it moved up and down a bit - I'll have to take a video and share.
I noticed when I turn from lock to lock, there is a sort of 'hiss' from the steering rack.

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Have been over the front components, checking for wear and cannot find any, nothing moves that shouldn't - apart from the steering arms/rack which moves up and down a bit when I waggle it - is it supposed to do that?! I held it by the point the steering arms/inner tie rods join the steering rack.

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Considering Archer is on 114k I would imagine some of the joints are a bit worn! I'll have the wheels balanced and aligned again just to make doubly sure then get a few more goodies together for a spree of replacement parts inc track rods. That should help matters.

Re: Bosch RK113 / VIM 129 Single Button Immobiliser - help!
Thanks I have seen on Migweb that you had similar issues with yours. Yes I did. Dan came over and helped - we found a dry solder but in trying to repair it we were checking the pins out and fried part of the circuit so we just rigged shut the immobiliser relay and glue gunned shut. No immobiliser! ...

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Before I changed the discs I had this problem, so unlikely to be that. I noticed that around 60 - 65 there is little vibration, above that speed and it increases. I've always felt the steering feels 'light' and almost 'wooly' - is it possible the rack is on the way out? Perhaps there is some slack o...

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Just came back from a drive down the motorway I'm still getting a wobble at over 60mph. Tracking and balancing have been done, the new discs are on flat and run true. So what's left? Bearings? CV? Lower arm movement? That balancer thing on the drive shaft?

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Yeah, all good once we swapped round the calipers - they bolted straight on so I didn't question the fact the bleed nipple was at the bottom - you can even see it in one of my pictures above - luckily Dan spotted it after 10mins, then all was plain sailing and now Archer rides again! I've had some C...

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Big thanks to Dan S (Migweb) who came out for some mincing and sorted out bleeding the brakes.
He didn't spot the brake calipers that I did not put on upside down and on the wrong side of the car at all, that never happened.

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)
Thanks Alan. I've got a bleed problem, I've bled the system a couple of times but the pedal is very soft, almost non-existent. Hopefully mate will come round Wednesday and help me do it again, in case I'm missing something. Yet more days off the road, so much for a daily runner. I managed to drop th...
