Re: James' 1995 Manual CDX V6 Saloon

Almost forgot, I also had a go at following Robsey's excellent how2 guide on cleaning electric wing mirror switches which can be found here . My mirrors had stopped working some time ago. I've defiantly been guilty of replacing these switches unnecessary before, and what with the scarcity of genuine...

Re: James' 1995 Manual CDX V6 Saloon

I've heard a lot about the bulkhead issue over the years but never actually heard of it happening to someone. Not sure if it is a real issue or just one of those things that is perpetuated by hearsay.
Either way, it's never been an issue for me on any of my Cavaliers.

Re: James' 1995 Manual CDX V6 Saloon

Sorry for the lack of posting recently. There's seems to be a decreasing amount of spare time as I get older. What spare time I have I've been indulging my other long standing hobbies, maybe I'll post something in my mega thread about that. Cars have definitely not been forgotten about however, and ...

Re: Stuff we've seen on the road

That Lincoln hearse reminds me of six feet under Cadillac hearse. Only that one was older and bright green.

Saw this in the car park at Knole yesterday:

Re: Robsey's Thread of Random Ramblings.

I had to change a rear spider and two dampers about six years ago. And I rewired the water inlet valve sensor 5 months ago. On a full load, the washer dances around the kitchen on full spin. I am sure you could probably hear it banging-about if you open your kitchen window - lol. I am a skin-flint,...

Re: Timing belt

I've found Febi to be one of the best for quality. They are my go to brand for anything I need. Unfortunately they are getting harder and harder to find though. I've not had much luck with Gates water hoses before, tend to be a bit ill fitting, but I've not tried their cambelts before. I'll have to ...

Re: Timing belt

I've done a bit of shopping around and bought all the parts separately.
Got a Continental belt, Febi water pump and a genuine Vauxhall tensioner all for just under £80.

Think the kits are a bit of a waste of money, seem to get better quality and better prices if you buy them separately.

Re: Timing belt

Thread resurrection!

Does anyone know a good supplier of timing belt kits?
I'm struggling to find one for my 1993 C20NE for a good price. I would like one with the water pump and tensioner and from a reputable brand.

I can get a Gates kit for around £110 but that seems a bit pricey to me.

Re: James' 1995 Manual CDX V6 Saloon

Yeah, it was the rear left one that was stubborn. I was worried about breaking the bolt at one point. Kept making a clonking noise as I turned it. I tried being more gentle at first, undoing it a bit then tightening it again to ease it out. That didn't really work. Just lots of WD-40 and a bit of br...

Re: Battery Life

I had a battery suddenly fail on me. That was probably about 2011 though. Stopped at a petrol station and then couldn't get it started again. Had to call the AA out in the end as no one had any jump leads. Anyway, halfords batteries are pretty good in my experience. I've been buying ones directly fr...

Re: Stuff we've seen on the road

I never used to like the Range Rover, preferring the more utilitarian Land Rover. But I appreciate it more and more these days. The looks have aged really well and it's actually a very practical, well designed car. And unlike the modern equivalents, it's not as wide as it looks and is easy to see pa...

Re: James' 1995 Manual CDX V6 Saloon

Right, so, just to recap... I finally managed to get the V6 in the garage in Feb 2022 after almost two and a half years of living at our house. Just a couple of months before, our world was completely changed when William was born on 28th December 2021. Here he is, just a few minuets old, looking ex...
