Re: X20xev poor idle=stress
On top of that what everyone else in the thread said about cleaning the ICV. Clean the throttle body as well, using lollipop sticks, a small wire brush and a can of carb cleaner used sparingly. Don't be tempted to use a screwdriver to scrape it or you'll run the risk of keying the sides of the throt...

Re: fitting valve stem seals?
...working out how much paste to use on the valves, making sure I don't get any paste down the guides and so on :/ Does it actually need any at all? I've generally found that as we moved away from the 70s cars didn't really need it, unless they're a complete dog that's been run on ratsh*t for most ...

Re: Cleaning the breather pipes
Which 2.0 16v are you talking about?
Most breathers that I've come across that needed cleaning, really just needed replacing; the gunk that builds up inside of them is very difficult to extract and not worth the net effort as the pipes themselves were going a bit soggy anyway

Re: Engine smell!
If it's a smell of burning oil
then I'd suggest you've got a leak onto your downpipe, probably though not necessarily from your sump
Which engine is it? XEs with the older two-gasket set up could get messy around the sump

Re: running issues
Everything points to your MAF
It ran rough, you cleaned it, it ran OK for a while then it went bad again
As above, disconnect it
When it comes to replacement, buy OE, don't be fooled by cheapies on fleabay; they either last about 2 weeks or just don't work at all

Re: Any tips for getting more power out of a 2.0lt 16 v Eco
Hi with the XE becoming a bit rarer, tuning outlets are cottoning on to the XEV, consequently there are now 'bits' out there You can make the engine alot more responsive by losing that lard-arsed flywheel, couple that with a Lexmaul 4-2-1 in place of that asthmatic lump of pig-iron that comes as sta...

Hello Colin. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your Cavaliers in 'The Showroom' section. Do you have some in place from your time with another username? What were you known as on here before 'Colin1'? I don't even remember registering prior to last night but I've usually been colin1 whereve...

Ha
you don't want that right now, they're not in great shape
The engine's out of the redtop so it's sitting high at the front
Funnily enough, your handle was one of the ones that caught my eye - seen you somewhere before?
From Hebburn as well - I'm a native of Gateshead (Low Fell) myself

Return to the fold
Hi all I received an invite to the all-new MKO3 site in my mailbox tonight which came as a bit of a surprise, I wasn't sure how they knew about me. I thought 'why not' and tried to register but the system told me 'that eMail address was already in the database' - hmm, that's how they knew about me.....
