I wish I could agree,
but the sad truth is that a lot of employers are looking for the cheapest deal.
Especially those in the lowest pay sectors.
'Human Resources' are just that... dealing with humans as resources, not as people.
Just a faceless employee number.

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
Due to time constraints, a lot of garages do the emissions tests when the car is still cold, rather than allowing the car to warm up fully.
They then tick the box to bypass the oil temperature check.

Re: Good Old Fashioned Pub Grub
They are not pubs any more. They are totally devoid of atmosphere, trying to be over diverse. If I want an Indian inspired dish, I will go to an Indian, or they can do an Indian Night. If I want Mexican, then same again... go to a Tex Mex or do a theme night. Everything is a vegan special with plant...

A tentative congratulations to your missus.
Let's hope they stand by their promises.
I haven't had to apply for a 'new' job for 26 years.
It was so much easier back then.

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
I bought a type approved catalytic converter from BM in 2019. It is still in the packaging nearly five years later. The emissions were showing a failing cat, but the garaged pushed the car through. Hopefully if I sort all the obvious stuff, it 'should' only fail on the jacking points. Assuming I fit...

Good Old Fashioned Pub Grub
I think I am turning into a grumpy old fart. We are due to go out today for a nice pub lunch to celebrate the wife's birthday. Maybe we are old fashioned, or dyed in the wool, but why does nobody do proper old pub grub any more? We have been going to the same villages for well over thirty years... a...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
Cheers Andy, I am anticipating getting the MOT sometime in mid to late June. Plan is to get it to the garage for a pre-MOT in early June. This should identify what needs doing. Then take the Cav up to the unit to get it all sorted. Then back to the garage for the MOT. The game plan being to attend V...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
As tempting as it is, I thought that I should do the essentials first. So first the front lights... these were icky green, so I removed the headlamps and indicators to clean them up. There is a fair bit of crustiness hidden by the lights and grille, but nothing structural. Lights refitted and the ru...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
I have found another potential project / How 2 for the Cavalier. Omega-B bonnet lifter struts. I have djgritts original VxON thread about fitting them on my phone... And I have a set of struts in my shed. ;) Looks like a modestly easy job to do. Hmmm, now where is my 6.8mm drill bit and M8 tap set. ...

Re: My Little 1.8LSi
All that code stuff is voodoo to me.
I can barely understand written English, never mind computer code.
As for non-OEM parts. Sadly it is too common for non-original parts to wear or fail prematurely.
Or they simply do not fit properly.

If the jacking-point panel does turn out to be a genuine GM part, I would be tempted to get the left one too.
Depending upon the quality of my Klokkerholm part in comparison.
I will have a quick look-see and compare when the part arrives.

Penciled it in, usually a good event! Alan Weather permitting. The Saturday last year was almost a total wash-out. I did get photos, but only stayed an hour or so. And failed to meet any of the regulars. Anyway we have just under three months for the Sun to try to show it's face. Fingers crossed.

I find it crazy how quick mainland European post is compared to our UK service. I ordered the right side jacking point pressing from Holland last thing Thursday night (last night). I got an email tonight to say that it was on its way, and will be delivered to me on Wednesday. That is crazy... but I ...

Re: My VERY RUSTY VW T25 Camper Van Project
I have miles of sleeving, but being earth wires, it should not be an issue. I am usually quite pedantic with the +12v wires for insulation anyway. Double sleeving on the higher current carrying wires. 26/4/24 @ 21:00 UPDATE - Polybushes received already. I hope to pick up the rest of the bits on Mon...

Re: VBOA 2024 - JULY 26th-28th 2024
I am hopeful that my Cav will be back to rude health and ready to attend this year. For the first time since 2019. A few days short of it's 30th birthday (registration day). Hopefully see a few of you there. Not sure which day, but Saturday usually means more chance of being there long enough to see...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
With the wife's car, it is also the load area that matters. All modern cars come with no boot space. Something vital for putting her wheelchair into. It just goes into the Cavalier, https://i.postimg.cc/DwRhw02k/20180714-095420.jpg but there is bags more room in the Vectra. Minimal corrosion, good c...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
Tonight I ordered what could potentially be the last repair panel for the Cavalier. Since the closure of the Carz2 webshop, I have been unable to get a right front reinforcer / jacking point from Klokkerholm. A fellow-member had enquired previously and mentioned a site in Holland. I haven't heard ba...

Now that I have my car back, I was reminded by Troy that there was a unit.... I had got out of the habit of going  So tonight - I finished painting the bottom wishbone (if you can call it that), and then assembled the bottom eyelet and radius rod to it. The blue looks correct in this photo. ht...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
I hope the car will be happy for a while. It usually costs about £400 a year. But this year, £2010 for parts and labour, and £600 for car hire. I have a sneaking suspiscion that the exhaust is next. Just rear mounts and rubbers, I think. On the up-side... It is the Cavalier's turn next. :thumb I hav...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
Cheers Gary,
The Vectra is home now.
A big sense of relief to have it back.
Ours is far from cosmetically and mechanically good.
It looks lived-in, and has been worked hard.
I suppose the MOT pass just means that it meets the minimum safety standards.
And then only until the car left the forecourt.

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
Vectra now has a new 12 month ticket - woohoo. I probably could have bought a very good example, for the amount that I have spent on it since the beginning of December... A big chunk was two lots of van hire. But the biggest cost was the Clutch, dual mass and timing belt in December. Hey ho... it is...
