Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon

Probably still better reception than I get in my Volvo, come to think of it I'm yet to find a Volvo with good radio reception once you get out in the sticks. The sound systems themselves are always great, its just I believe the ariels that they fit are too small, to anything made after the 240 era.

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

After rubbing down then painting they started to look a lot better. https://i.postimg.cc/ncykYz0G/20231229-124148.jpg Got to admit though that I cheated a bit with the rear one as I recently sourced a brand new one. https://i.postimg.cc/Dw1t1Rdm/20231229-112009.jpg As I've mentioned before I've got ...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

Whilst I was waiting for the paint to dry I thought I'd turn my attention to the wipers. Like the rest of the van they were looking very time worn.

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

Been having a bit of a play on and off over the last week with the drivers front wing. Its proving a bit of a nemesis, the only way I can get the bottom profile right to the door is to put the filler in too thick. Where the front bumper meets it just doesn't sit right. https://i.postimg.cc/4ysFX3hg/...

Re: My daily runaround Astra van

Well this has turned into a weird one. When the garage took a look in day light, even though the gearbox is still very ill, (noisy and needing to be double declutched to get into 2nd and 3rd, )what caused the total loss of drive was actually a c.v joint failing with no warning and no symptoms.

Re: My daily runaround Astra van

I suppose any scrapper with a similar aged Astra or Zafira. It sounds like you will get to keep the van afterall. Woohoo. With the labour costs involved i darent take a box out a scrapper, as I know only too well you can have a seemingly decent box deteriate very quickly ,it was only earlier in the...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon

Its great that not only you've got the car back, but also that you've found a decent mechanic. I bet she struggles a lot against sexism, but I couldn't care less what sex someone is, so long as they do the job well and at a fair price. A friend of mines daughter used to be a mechanic for a few years...

Re: My daily runaround Astra van

My boss has decided that he now wants to repair this van, does anyone know of a good source of recon M32 gearboxes? I'm guessing mine is not going to be suitable to exchange?

Re: My daily runaround Astra van

Such a shame as its still an almost immaculate van, ok there's a 160k+ on the clock but for a 12 year commercial thats not a lot in this day and age. There's loads if silly niggles wrong with it, each one not a big issue on their own but added together builds up to a lot. Plus if a gearbox is fitted...

Re: My daily runaround Astra van

The gearbox in this van has been doing the old M32 trick of eating its bearings. The noise had been getting worse and worse so at my bosses request when I dropped it off for the mot I had the gearbox oil changed , and some molyslip additive filled as well. Picked up the van tonight, thought great it...

If it does come to that and you have to pick up the funding then please let me know and I'll gladly make a contribution towards the cost if it helps keep this database of knowledge open to everyone and help preserve our beloved cars.

Re: Merry Christmas you lovely lot.

I think it is partly because the number of cavs left is dropping, however I have noticed in general that forum use seems to be reducing, I'm guessing largely due to people using social media more and more. Lets hope they keep surviving as its an invaluable source of information, whereas on the likes...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon

Sounds just like the issues I've got with my mk5 van, it wants exactly the same as your vectra plus a new gearbox. The stupid thing is on Friday though apart from wanting a headlight bulb (failed on route) it walked through its mot, not bad for a 12 year old commercial with 160k on the clock. Let's ...

Re: Bedford Astravan MK2

Yet more very boring body prep this morning . I started tweeking the door and drivers side wing this morning, as when I trial fitted them a while ago the profile wasn't right. Sometimes it feels never ending but I know eventually I'll get there. The wing was off in 2 places; https://i.postimg.cc/hPG...

Another wee parts haul there, always worth scooping up hard(er) to find parts when you can and funds allow. My mum was wondering if there was something up as she hadn't recieved any parcels for me for a while! I usually redirect them to folks place if I'm going to be out, it's easier just picking t...

Bloody rain stopped play today, checking the forecast it said I'd get a window in the weather for a few hours this afternoon. Hah! I just set everything up when the heavens opened. I guess that's what you've got to expect in Britain, particularly at this time of the year!

Re: Volvo C70 2.0Diesel Convertible,auto

I reckon I'm not going to get much change out of £700, when I used to use cavs as my daily driver, I never used to spend that much buying the whole car, sadly I think those days are long gone.

Re: Volvo C70 2.0Diesel Convertible,auto

:tdown It turns out a friend of mine has the dogs bollocks code reader, after getting loads of spurious codes then on the second check they disappeared bar the headlight one. The cause is indeed a sensor on the o/s front anti roll bar link, the cost ? At least £250-300 for the part, plus a tyre is g...
