Re: James' megathread of ongoing insanity

Really nice photos James my man. I've also ditched Photofucket years ago, it's just not worth the hassle. Plenty of other options out there.

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Like I said, they took you for a ride. It's always best to do the simple things yourself, if you can. Saves a lot of hassle. First time I replaced an exhaust pipe by myself, I just did it and taught myself how. With a bit of advice from folks on here as well. But it's so satisfying to be able to do ...

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Ye, usually have to cut a slit with an angle grinder in the outer section of the backbox which goes over the middle section pipe to loosen it, if it's rusted tight.

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Excellent work, that's exactly how I used to do mine, pair of steel ramps, climb underneath and usually lose most of the skin off my fingers trying to prize off the rubber mount bushes. That old backbox looks like something that was shot down during WW2 and laid at the bottom of a river and got pull...

Yep, worth doing. Especially the windscreen washer reservoir, if they aren't cleaned out from time to time, they begin growing all sorts of mould and algae inside and it smells. Definitely worth doing.

That's just decades of neglect. If it's kept in check, it shouldn't ever get that bad.

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Good job on that, it's common for the battery tray to rust out as it loves to hold water there. plus endless leaves, dirt and muck, ideal conditions for rust to develop. While you're there, it's well worth removing that 13mm bolt which is at the earth point and all the wire ring terminals which atta...

Re: Connector indetification

Old red wire insulation tends to turn pink, it's perfectly normal. So yes, it would be red.

Re: 1995 2.5 V6 CDX Saloon Manual Cav in Magic Grey Pearl

I do miss my old V6 sedan in a way, what a motor that was. They are maintenance heavy, but very good to drive. Just took a brief look through the posts, one thing I did with mine was I fitted a wiper stalk from a hatchback model. Sounds silly but when you push forward on it (to activate the rear was...

Re: Connector indetification

Knowing Vauxhall/Opel it would be for something daft like an auxiliary radio connection or something silly like that.

My old C18NZ (if that's what yours is) didn't have the extra wire coming out of the ignition amplifier as I've pretty much been all over the engine compartment for years on that.

Re: Connector indetification

Regarding the first photo, do you have a light fitting in the bonnet? The wires for that run down the bottom of the bonnet and somewhere into the bulkhead area, if I remember right, that could be it.

No idea about the second one.

I wanted to buy an XM some years ago just due to their sheer massive size and unique shape. Finding one for sale was always a challenge.

The BXs look alright, instantly recognisable shape. Still see a couple every now and then on the roads. I like the square tail lights on them.

Re: Stuff we've seen on the road

Funny enough I saw a red Calibra earlier today on my usual shopping trip on foot, can't recall if it's a Turbo or not but had a loud twin exhaust, not chavved up, just nicely modified, loud as hell. Think I've seen it around for a few years but can't remember the license plate exactly. Nice to see, ...

Ye, I was going to suggest a blocked exhaust system as well, as old original muffler boxes tend to get clogged like an old smoker's lungs.

Re: C18NZ too slow.

Have you checked the distributor cap, take it off and look inside, the contact terminals inside tend to wear out quite often, also the terminals inside the round housings where the HT leads plug into the distributor cap, check inside for any heavy corrosion (light blue in colour). If it's worse when...

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Robsey could probably tell you in his sleep which wire goes where.... And even a basic voltage tester will do the trick. As far as I know, there should be a permanent live going to the switch buttons, all the other wires are probably for the other functions, like being able to open the windows with ...

Good to hear you're still around dude.

Not sure, sounds like either a dodgy switch unit or a short somewhere. Just wondering if you tried checking the voltage at different connection terminals to see if anything is drawing power when it shouldn't be?

Re: Cavalier Sri lambda sensor

Ecotecs, I bet they're a nightmare to deal with. If you can get underneath the front end, I suppose you could get a flashlight and look for where it comes out of the exhaust manifold and try to follow the wire up as far as you can see. Wrap some bright tape around as far up the wire as you can reach...
