more than likey wont stop leaking until the seal is replaced.
be sure that the oil level is never over filled as this is the certain cause for failure.
make sure the the crankcase ventilation system isn't blocked

the trouble is it goes undetected for years, just like the chassis rails!!!!!! where the spring sits can totally disappear! Just try to keep on top of it. etch primer is brilliant for bare metal as it promotes adhesion. Paints struggle to adhere to bare metal properly.

i find brushing paint on to repairs for more convenient the spraying with aerosol, you can get into tight areas too.
