Re: Reluctant to start when fully warmed up

current will take the path of least resistance, unlikely to matter much as long as you don't try it with cheese.

Re: 20seh engine ecu...

Be aware that most 20NE ecu's that you are likely to find are going to be C20NE and looking for an o2 sensor and tank vent valve, I don't recalll the SEH having them, unless someone remembers better. Could use the complete injection system from one though as the guts of the engine are much the same

Blackpool sends a shiver down my spine. No offence meant to anyone here that lives there but we had a bad experience in Blackpool years ago and swore we would never return.

Re: Automatic gearbox problem on v6 cav.

I replaced a solenoid on one some years back. A pressed steel plate on the front of the box comes off and it was behind that. Seem to remember that although it was a messy job to do, the hardest part really was identifying which solenoid was which as there are 2 or 3 in there. There is probably a di...

Re: Hello people

Thanks all for the welcome, I took some photo's of it tonight, but it was a bit too shadowy so I'll take some tomorrow. It's no minter, but it's ours and it doesn't owe anything! MOT good today, advisories on the brakes, not surprised really as I only drove about half a mile to the station and it's ...

To add, because I just realised it wasn't in the bit I copied and pasted..... I am an ex Vauxhall Technician of Cavalier vintage. Worked in a handful of North London dealers between about 1991 and 2003, culminating in workshop control for the last 2 or 3 years of that. My Cavalier knowledge is prett...

Copied from one of my posts........ "Introduction, hmmm, suppose it'd be polite. Name is Paul, live in Bexhill On Sea. Have a late 1800LS Auto 5dr, in satin red. It was given to us four years ago by sister in law who lost the plot I think. I sourced it through the private ads for her a couple o...

Re: Got any tips for gauaging over the winter?

Make sure you leave the handbrake off. Ideally leave it on axle stands to prevent flat spotting the tyes, although tbh I never had a problem with this even with a car left four years. Disconnect the battery, and be prepared to charge it once a month or it is likely to fall over dead. Or consider run...

Adjustment of the self adjuster mechanism isn't too scary. Then again a heavily lipped drum can be a real donkey to get off - plastic faced mallet usually works for me. Come to think of it...yeah, drum brakes are a real pain aren't they !! :wall Learn to adjust them through a wheel bolt hole. With ...

Re: Satin red cav turbo

I have a soft spot for these, shame unmolested ones are rare. I had one that I was running for a customer trying to reproduce a fault a few years back, think I had it a couple of weeks in the end. Family practicality with performance. If one came up at the right money I'd probably be interested, but...

Re: help needed with my 17 td alternator

The regulator on the back of the instrement cluster won't affect the voltage from the alternator, it is there to stabilise instrement readings. The battery light is fed with 12v which is earthed back through the alternator to bring the light on when not charging. This voltage (IND) also feeds the wi...

Re: this is the beginning of a beatiful relationship!!

When you do the head gasket again have the head pressure tested, they crack sometimes if they have ongoing problems that are not fixed promptly. Also worth noting, some engines have an oil gallery behind the water pump that has a brass plug in it iirc, if this is loose then oil can find it's way int...

Sounds like it's overcharging? It will kill the battery eventually if you keep running it that way.

Re: Sticking rear brake

A jolly good clean and a buff with some emery works wonders with sticky handbrakes, they often stick in the mornings and the rear end gets a little snatchy if neglected. Occasionally see sticky cables where they fray in the guide where they change angle each end of the rear axle assembly too.

Re: Reluctant to start when fully warmed up

Sluggish to crank? I missed that originally. Ign amp failing will just cause no spark, so cranking will be the same. Poor cranking would be battery, starter or wiring loom. I agree with you regarding battery. If you have access to a current clamp you could check starter current draw, off the top of ...

Re: Reluctant to start when fully warmed up

Hi all, first post for me, an ex Vauxhall technician of Cavalier vintage, lol.
Ign module can give those symptoms, vey common on the c14nz in fact. Not a fortune to replace, if it were mine I'd start there. Assuming of course you have no spark when it won't start?
