Re: GSI ABS problem.

I had a similar problem of the abs light coming on but it turned out to be self inflicted - I had cleaned the discs with wire wool which had stuck all over the sensors! I also ended up replacing the sensor mountings for the later plastic ones as the original alloy jobs had been corroding and had cru...

Re: What's the connector for?

Following the 2 conductors back to the loom they do have a large brown cable with them (probably 4mm)
The two cables look about 1.5/1.75mm sort of size with the connector right between the r/h end of the battery and the washer bottle filler neck.

What's the connector for?

I have been 'playing' with daylight running lights and have found a unused connector between battery and inner wing on my 1990 CDi
This is a 2 pin device fed by a brown/white which is made live when ignition is on and a brown/yellow (which is not earth).
Any ideas what this might have been used for?

Re: Belt end rattle?

I have tightened the belt a little and will see how it goes.
Twisting the belt to gauge tension I find quite awkward as the part that needs twisting is enclosed in the confined space of the belt cover not leaving a lot of room for fingers!

Re: Belt end rattle?

There is no tensioner, that's what's so strange all there is is the crank pulley, cam pulley (1) and the water pump! So simple it didn't ought to make a noise!

Re: Belt end rattle?

20NE
No not singing but a rattly type noise from the timing belt area, mainly at tickover revs up to perhaps 1500rpm.
The belt end should be quiet shouldn't it?

Re: Belt end rattle?

I appreciate that pumps can make noises but this is a new pump which feels very smooth.
I have heard very slack belts which can cause the valve gear to clatter but my noise comes from the belt end.

Belt end rattle?

I changed the timing belt and water pump on my CDi recently (20NE) and initially had the belt a little tight, as it 'sang'! So I re adjusted to eliminate that but I seem to have noises coming from the belt area? I took belts off alternator and pump to eliminate them (no different) I don't remember n...

Re: Cav mk3 Rear Wheel Bearing Change

Not changed a rear myself but I have seen rear wheel bearing kits on eBay for around a fiver! (nearly had a set as a spare)!
Or take the bearings out and get the numbers off them and visit a bearing supplier for them and a new seal

Re: Tail light brightness

Interesting! My lights do appear to be quite clean with no 'fogging' on the insides I do wonder why 21/4 watt bulbs were used instead of the more common 21/5 watt? I had a thought that as I rarely use the rear Fog lights I could switch the supplies around giving a 21w tail light and a 4w fog light! ...

Re: Tail light brightness

Has the V6 got a different light unit?
Given a bit of spare time might experiment by removing the glass from a bulb to incorporate sockets for those small halogen bulbs used in domestic lighting - I could then get my 10w tail lamp and use a 20w one for the fog.

Re: Tail light brightness

Thanks for reply. I know the brake light is separate (but I have always called these dual filament bulbs stop/tail lamps)! The correct bulb is a 21/4w which has the bayonet lugs in a slightly different position to the more common 21/5w bulb. I found that by removing one of the lugs (pips) it could w...

Tail light brightness

I have never been impressed with the brightness of my saloons tail lights. First thing I did when I got the car was to file a lug off a 21/5w stop/tail bulb to give an extra watt of light! (didn't make any much difference) All other rear lights seem OK so I put it down to thick plastic moulding? Bul...

Ageing rubber hose!

Just found the hose at the bottom of the power steering resevoir to be rather cracked and crazed - it will leak before too long! I was advised that fuel hose was unsuitable due to the fluid attacking it, so I have bought a length of hydraulic hose (seemed a good idea at the time) which will fit well...

Re: We are new here

Hi and welcome. I think the concertina hose you refer to is the hose between throttle body and air mass meter (filter)? I have found cracks at the ends of mine where the hose clips are. I have repositioned the clips to cover the cracked areas. I enquired at my local Vauxhall dealer to find they are ...

Hi all, been lingering for a bit and thought it about time I made my first post! First admired the Cavaliers in the early 90's and was impressed by the excellent body pressings that gave the bodywork such nice smooth lines. Have owned my example since 1996 and must admit it is a bit 'pampered' ! I a...
