Re: SOUTHERN 14TH MEETING

If we do a photoshoot... can you run a de-shite filter on the windscreen of mine? For the first time ever, it's sustainted scratches at the hands (brushes?) of a car wash, and what I thought were smears are in fact scrapes in the glass.

Boo.

Re: SOUTHERN 14TH MEETING

Ok, let's get this year of meets off to a good start... Dave, if we go anywhere, you're leading, right?

(I still have nightmares about endless housing estates and U-turns from the last time I was there...)

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

I'm currently in Devon at the moment, sans Cav, but I'll check it out when I get home. I need to look up and learn about a number of parts on the 2.0 that don't exist on the 1.8, and try not to break anything in the meantime.

Re: Lowrider Dave - 1994 GLS (Archer)

Question is... will we be seeing Archer on the 23rd?

Loving this thread, Dave! Only wish I'd found it sooner. I'll be interrogating you on sources for parts and refurb/cleaning methods when we do meet again... be warned!

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Well, it all ended with my tearing too much hair out and getting a nice 2.0i in better condition. You'll likely have seen it up for grabs in the For Sale section, she's free to a good home to be repaired or taken apart as whoever gets it see's fit to do so. So now I have the fun times of making this...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Aha, if they've got recommendation from the Mighty Bucker himself, then I'll certainly be flinging them off to their workshop very soon. Let's just hope it actually does the trick... The only issue so far is they've said they don't have the proper rig to be able to fully test that type of injector, ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Well... a long conversation with my pet mechanic, and I do believe we're homing in on the actual, real fault now... the injector. Seems the multec SPI injectors aren't built to handle modern fuels as well as more recent units, and are prone to leaking and other interesting failures. While I've yet t...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

I do try the gentle twisting before trying to remove anything, but sometimes even that is enough to break the aged plastic barbs on things, which is what has happened twice now. The metal ones, easy! The plastic ones... yeah, at the age of this car, cutting the pipe is far, far more preferable to th...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Well, I think it's time for another big update! So, todays little sojourn into the world of the intake side of things proved there wasn't much wrong with it, just a throttle-to-manifold gasket that was a tad fragile. So far, nothing found but a couple of bits broken along the way such as that aforem...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Ok, got my throttle body in bits to inspect it, and I'm wondering... does the MAP sensor line plug into the lowest port on the manifold itself, or the lowest port on the throttle body (where it currently resides now)? I only ask, because I'm wondering if that would make any difference at all, given ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

I'm going to do this Saturday, yeah. I tried blocking the pipes point of entry at the manifold, I'm not entirely sure what happened as I was busy buggering around with other things at the time too. Given the issue is mostly at Idle (although stands to reason it happens all the time, misfires mainly ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Ok, the more I drive, the more I'm convinced the fault lies on the brake servo side of things. A couple of things have been happening, all seemingly connected, which kinda solidifies my conviction this is where the problem lies... 1) The brake pedal is getting softer, and requires more force to get ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Ok, for the princely sum of £12, I've obtained an exhaust and intake manifold gasket for the lump. Now, these SHOULD have been changed during the head gasket repair, but something is bugging me a little regarding this. The studs to hold the exhaust manifold on show no signs of having a nut undone on...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

That's odd, because the part number on it is 90410214, which is what I've been searching for. Also, a distinct lack of anything like it on Ebay, which didn't help matters. I'll look into getting one then, and try not to break it when fitting! Edit: Got one! Should arrive fairly soon-ish, and then I ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Well, I managed to break my purge valve when trying to replace the hoses, two of the barbs have come off completely... If I connect the vac line from the servo pipe to the one going to the throttle body, will things will work for now, albeit with no canister purging for a while? And does anywhere st...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

It's much cheaper to get a blanking plate and remove the EGR altogether, to be honest. It seems (from various sources I've looked at on t'internets) that doing so actually helps a lot with emissions and the like, so quite why they're actually6 a thing escapes me for the time being. I might even look...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

The EGR is a recurring thing on this car, so it could very well be part of the issue, but mostly that was down to a leaky gasket which has since been replaced. Tempted to get or make a blanking cap for the port anyway, to rule it out completely however. The brake servo however... I have noticed the ...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

Nope, pipe change did nothing much, still misfires and causes issues. However, I have been thinking of other causes, and I've only just thought it could be the injector itself. I'm going to consider a few other things first however, such as replacing all the pipes with new stuff to see if that has a...

Re: Cable's Thread of Ongoing Misery

I'm starting to think I shouldn't have been allowed to find the release lever! Not yet been able to change the pipe on it, and the only hose I can get locally right now is fuel hose with a 4mm diameter, but that should work with some luck. If I don't get it sorted between now and Saturday, it'll be ...
