Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
Not anyone's bad. A one-line item can be interpreted in may ways. The Halo's can refer to either the side-light rings, Or The type of headlamp assembly, The proper names are obviously Morettes for pre-facelift, and Angel Eyes for facelift. As for improving light output, only decent bulbs make things...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
The relaying is for the halo side light bulbs. A normal side light bulb - type 501 = 1 bulb at 5 watts per side. Total = 10 watts for both sides. Halo rings are:- Two rings per side - Each containing four type 286 bulbs. = 8 bulbs at 1.2 watts each = 10 watts per side. Total = 20 watts for both side...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
I had a listing of jobs from 2020 on my notes app in my phone. I was glad to see that I had done quite a few of them, but after a quick check through, I found a few more. Here we go - enough to see the year out, as soon as I can turn the car into a rolling project - after the mot that is. Many are o...

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
Cheers Gary,
Hopefully the car is more or less complete.
All major parts should be present and correct, so if I am missing anything, it will probably be just small plastic trims.
But many thanks for your very kind offer dear chap.

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
It was nice to get back into working on my Cav.
I have missed how easy they are to rebuild.
It is also nice to post about a Cavalier, rather than a VW van or the Vectra.

Re: 1994 Cavalier LSi C20NE (was C18NZ) Work-horse
I finally made a start... I was a little dis-heartened to find this. But considering how much rain we've had, and how long it is since I last looked inside the car, I presume this is mainly condensation. https://i.postimg.cc/HW5hhNZh/20240406-143137.jpg It only took one wipe with a typical micro-fib...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
I bought a small car in 2016 when the Cavalier was being refurbed. The wife went ballistic and forced me to sell it. I daren't even consider another car, as I may end up in next week's obituaries. Amazingly I had an almost identical offer from Troy. Virtually giving me a Swift, but needs an MOT and ...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
Thanks my friend. Very kind offers indeed. I am going to throw some TLC and fuel into the Cavalier this weekend, and then arrange an MOT asap. I have been wanting it back on the road this year anyway. It is hoped that between us, myself and Troy will get it sorted. I have got a pair of used trailing...

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
Well it may spur a few things on.
Perhaps a ressurection of the Cavalier, who knows?
I have found some brackets in Lithuania.
Maybe the Vectra will live to see another day.
Only time and the Gods of fate will tell in due course.

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
Cheers Gary,
But it looks like the Vectra will be getting Sorned soon.
For the first time ever, we now have no working cars.
And at this time - no money to replace them.
Time to put my big-boy pants on, and come up with a solution.

Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
The big drama is the trailing arms. Apparently they are buggered, and they are the parts that are no longer available. https://i.postimg.cc/7Zpdp87C/20240402-184653.jpg The bolts are external splines... not that you can tell due to being so badly corroded. Re: The Wife's Vectra-C - The other battle wagon
It's that time of year again... Pesky MOT. And it bombed out yet again. :no Yes I know - shockingly bad for a so called Vauxhall enthusiast. Our cars get worked very hard. https://i.postimg.cc/mryydLkb/Screenshot-20240402-234612-Samsung-Internet.jpg I am shocked that two tyres were illegal. ...

Re: My VERY RUSTY VW T25 Camper Van Project
I didn't mention the exhaust stud. That all depends on how nice it will play. I am hoping that it will extract willingly. Although I seem to have been handed regular sessions of drilling out studs recently. That can wait for fair weather, before I will start stripping the old exhaust off pro...

As it is a quiet day, I cranked up the old laptop and checked out the oracle that is TIS2000. Instructions are as follows:- Models 86,87,88, and 89. 86 - 4 door saloon / F19 87 - 4 door saloon / M19 88 - 5 door hatch / F66 89 - 5 door hatch / M68 Remove and disconnect The "Turn Signal" Ass...

Re: My VERY RUSTY VW T25 Camper Van Project
It is an odd one - The clamp is the perfect profile for the bush. And the bush is the correct size for the anti-roll bar. I think the bush needs to be loaded by the weight of the van on it's wheels and worked a bit before we will find out if the bush will close up. I was surprised how pale that blue...

I have seen an adhesive backed gasket type strip on some cars.
Some use a thick seam sealant between the panels.

Re: Front wing removal
If you can find the centre pins, then you can re-use them.
Them little buggers tend to ping off into oblivion.
I would leave them for now.
See if removing the screws is enough, first.

Re: Front wing removal
I had a look at a Cavalier tonight in the unit.
There are two acme screw holes in the lower from edge of the wing, where it hides behind the bumper.
Everything else should be as I described above.

Re: My VERY RUSTY VW T25 Camper Van Project
Last week, I took my MAPP gas home to free up the manifold studs on the engine in my back yard. I seem to think it has been there since May of 2012... so nigh on twelve years ago. It has been drained of coolant in all that time, so hopefully internal corrosion is not too bad. Anyway, of the eight st...

Re: Front wing removal
The first job is to remove the front bumper. The wings themselves are bolted in place. About 7 Acme screws along the top edge (under the bonnet. One at the base of the A pillar, And probably a couple at the front below the indicators. --------- Then you have about 8 or so plastic expanding rivets th...

Ah okay,
I suppose something must have changed... health, family, or finances, to cause him to abandon the planned project.
The red-tops on their own will command a fair price.
They are still a popular retro-fit amongst the Nova / Corsa groups (PNG etc...)

I am tempted to say "what a shame..".
The last two posts both infer that the seller was only interested in the car as an investment.
Not from an enthusiast perspective.

Re: Rustival 2024 MARCH 9th
Excellent.
Did you only look at the Vauxhalls?
I like a lot of the old 80s and 90s cars.
It is just nice to see cars from my younger days.
Whether it is a TR7, a Super-Mirafiori or even a Morris Marina.
They are more interesting due to their personality and rarety.
