Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Tell you what, if you did that yourself, good work! Not sure about the dark stripe though... Can't work out if it looks right or not. Sort of divides the rear quarter panel a bit too obviously, if you get my meaning. Just for comparison, this is how my old V6 was, with the silver stripes. I can't wo...

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Very nice. That'll definitely finish it off nicely. I think I tried getting new plates once for my 89 L pre-facelift, from a garage that wasn't far from here, but they couldn't help me. Quite cool that you managed to get an exact replica design.

Re: Headlight levelling motor problem

That would explain then why when I used to play about with the switch (because I liked the sound of the motors turning slightly resembling the electric wing flap motors on light aircraft) when I turned the headlights off, and after a while, back on again, the motors would make a very brief sound, li...

Yep, usually would end up scraping my knuckles or slicing a finger doing something, end up sweating and swearing on a hot afternoon and go get a cold can out of the fridge. Blood, sweat And beers.

That's ownership of modern classics for you lol. A lot of blood, sweat and beers goes into it. At least in my case it did.

For me, if the car is to remain original, definitely keep the badges. On a tidy modified car, removing the badges can give that clean and mean look, depending on the rest of the car.

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

That's not too bad at all looking at those photos. The corners under the tail lights are usually the worst if there is any rust present. One of those rust treatment pens with the small brushes would be useful in your case, let it do it's work overnight then use a touch-up pen of the same colour to r...

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

Excellent stuff Tim, good work. That old aerial grommet looks like you've stuck it into a shredder lol. Also I've never seen the car registration etched on a headlamp lens, that's quite unusual. Things like new badges, new indicator units, really bring out the details.

I think it's to help the grommet come out at a slight angle, otherwise the mast going through the middle acts as a blocker in a way.

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

No, the carpeted trim just pulls out, You can loosen the screws which secure the plastic trim above if you like, but it just pulls out. If you lift up the trunk floor carpet trim, you can clear access for the bottom edge of it to come out, the courtesy light is just simply clipped into the trim pane...

water drops in the exhaust tailpipe are perfectly normal for petrol powered engines, it's just one of the ways the gases are expelled through the system.

Re: Headlight levelling motor problem

Hmm.. Sounds strange. Have you physically put your ear close to both headlamps while getting someone to play with the leveling switch to make sure that both motors are indeed making noise? They are loud enough to be heard clearly even inside the car. I've never taken one apart but they won't require...

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

I actually have a roll of pinstriping, unopened, given to me by another member on here for my old V6, as I think I was intending on re-spraying a panel and needed replacement pinstriping but never got round to it. I'm not sure what style exactly you're after, the one I have is a silver 2-stripe one,...

You could have edited out that white Skoda or whatever is in the background lol.

Definitely looks nice though. If it was a sedan, it would basically be a spitting image of my old V6.

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

This isn't getting any less spooky is it? Detailing is what counts, so worth all the effort. I used to be renowned for literally getting the toothbrush out to clean bits of trim on my old Cavaliers. Scared some people.

Very nice, welcome to the forum. It's amazing how many low mileage tidy example are being found still, the interior does look nice, certainly don't see that trim pattern often. I assume you're just keeping her nice and original looking, that's definitely a rare model so well worth keeping it as it c...
