Major squeaking coming from rear.

I've noticed a squeaking coming from my cavalier rear strut when driving down the road it's really loud.
What could it be should I have lubed all new rubbers up before refitting everything or do you recon I could be in need of new struts.

Need help please.

Re: Rear drum brakes stuck again help please?

Personally, I hate setting up drum brakes, but Paul has given really sound advise there. Also, if you haven't replaced the fitting kit before now, seriously consider it. I had no end of issues trying to reuse old parts. Are the drums excessively worn too? The only thing I've not replaced is the dru...

Re: Rear drum brakes stuck again help please?

The most common issue with these is that the y shape jaws of the self adjuster spread, allowing the little pressed plate with the spring slip of the ratchet, which then jams up and can lead to the brake sticking. Second is the handbrake cable sticking in the part where it turns they corner at the f...

Re: Rear drum brakes stuck again help please?

Did you change the flexi pipes as well, sometimes they can break down internally and cause problems. Also I had the original drums on mine, think they had done something like 170k, (probably beyond the wear limit) and I found that when the shoes were worn right down the cylinder pistons were right ...

Re: Rear drum brakes stuck again help please?

Right managed to stop the brakes from sticking only problem is the hand brake is still not exact I think the adjusters aren't working properly, when I get some more time I'm going to try and see if I can't get those adjuster working. Also when out doing my brake test a car decided to brake hard in f...

Rear drum brakes stuck again help please?

Right the cavs rear brake piston that I replaced has once again got stuck into the out position and won't retract back in which is causing the brake to get stuck and burn up on the drum. I've replaced the piston, pipe, shoes and the handbrake cable. But when I drove her the rear drum got red hot and...

Had a great time at the show not much attention on the old girl though as she was in the wrong section, too many older vauxhalls. But other then that she got comments and photos taken. I went round the show saw a few more cavs but no one was there really saw 4 I think. Here's some shots for you too ...

What size tyres are you using on the slabs ? 195 50 15s I think. Whys that m8? Just curious as most people run the wrong size, 205 55 15 for GSI's & 195 60 15's for all other model's are factory size's. O ok yeah these were off my Astra estate steel wheels brand new nearly so I thought don't wa...

Well I decided to tax her today may be losing some tax but I don't mind as I wanted to make sure things are running right for her show. Plus I really wanted a m8 to see her before he retires to Yorkshire as he's been following the build from day one and was looking forward to seeing her.

Always lots of muck gets in the rubbers, spent an age cleaning mine up and no sooner you have them all clean they are dirty again. Its looking good though chap. Yeah I know I'll just have to remember to give it a good clean every time I polish the old girl. Cheers man she's getting there just can't...
