could potentially be a few things,

The head gasket (ask a garage to do a sniff test)
The rings are shot (unlikely but possible)
The valve stem seals have gone
Something else probably terminal

how low is low?

was that yours in total vauxhall in the readers cars pages or just one similar

thats pretty normal if its a pattern part gasket

springs are simple enough but your going to have the take the front strut off so with no real order 30mm deep reach hub socket and a rubber mallet to knock the driveshaft out 18/19mm to undo the track rod end (and a couple of ends if your in the mood) balljoint splitter to get ends out 17mm -19mm bo...

as cavyman says get it serviced and get those breathers cleaned and replaced as needed, leaking air will lean out the mixture and reduce the power
