Re: Hi everyone I've a cav 4x4 16v gsi

Welcome mate Sorry to hear about your illness - hope all is well now. Congrats on the car. Great car in the day, I had one (okay a few...) Parts are still available but you’ll have to search for them, often high and low. For cav turbo it’s even harder. I’m restoring my cav turbo... Hope to see some ...

Re: Cavalier restoration

I was hoping to get the car back on the road, but realistically don’t see happening this part of the year. Here’s a quick commercial update... Shell has returned from the chemical dippers. Well it’s still one piece, but some repairs are required. Engine wise, completely stripped and some specialists...

Re: Cavalier restoration

Re: Volvo c70 convertible

Question is : what is a classification of a “dealer / trader”? Do you run a business, registered / company house, have dealer insurance, business receipt,... Also what differentiates dealer / private seller? Many 1000’s of people sell their cars using autotrader / eBay etc ... dealer cars are marked...

Re: Cavalier restoration

Trust me mate, it’s hard and I work away.

Dare I say it, I should have kept one of the gsi’s ... for parts.

Hopefully I will get some response in a few days from one of my contacts - fingers crossed.

Re: Cavalier restoration

If you got a template, try getting them 3D printed.... if you know someone

I did check locally, but one offs are toooo expensive, cheaper buying originals (but no longer available)

Re: Cavalier restoration

Yes ... in fact two, a replacement for my car and a spare - very hard to get.

Plus cavalier gsi and standard air bag steering wheels.

They all have some wear but perfectly useable

And lots of fuel display, including German ones!

Re: cavalier GSI restore

I suggest to get the car on the lift and check the underneath of the car, sills and critical areas. I’ll be surprised if there’s nothing hiding behind the body kit panels - generally it’s area where water gets trapped. However saying that you’re in hot area of the world so might be lucky. What’s the...

Re: Cavalier restoration

Makes big difference and also items have gone to good causes...

Still have lots to check thru and organise the parts ... lucky most are boxed original parts.

I’ve got about 3-4 very large boxes full of trim and fittings / mixture of steering wheels... including some original turbo parts.

Re: Cavalier restoration

Spent the weekend with a major clear out of the garage... had the bigger items collected with booking.

Several visits to the charity shop and recycle depot, I can see the other side of the garage... hurray!!

Now I have better access to my boxed parts.

I think it is easier when you write down, what you want. New transmission i.e. or something like that.
Good point - I’ll send out a list as I work around the car.

Re: Cavalier restoration

Quick update .. I will have to check with the uk firms on the door switches, I guess they won’t be Original but worth enquirying for my own peace of mind. I managed to source several original 6 speed gear knobs and a complete lever & emblems. Also sourced another set of original turbo rear light...

Re: Cavalier restoration

Did you drill out the steering gear mounts? If not, do so. Everytime lots of corrosion inside. I’ll have to check, but most parts will be replaced. I’m looking to get some new window and center window console switches. The existing ones work fine, but I want new all round as old have marks or scrat...
