Doesn't seem a bad price, even with the extra costs.
To have the car driving as it should, racking up miles without worry must be worth it

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
I got out to the car today to put the stuff i'd undone back together - my back finally felt mobile enough and it was a mild day. The battery had been off trickle charge for three days when fitted, to rule out the alternator first reading was with ignition off. https://i.postimg.cc/sX36XtDY/Battery-c...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
I thought I might be grasping at straws re tech1 and wiring. I'm in West Lothian and have tried all the Lothian's auto electrician, no one is interested. The sites i've looked at say the data is available in the workshop manual. I assume they mean vauxhall rather than Haynes but I can't find this da...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
tech1 can show live data too, but not much help if it's not running. At most you'll get code 31 or 19 (or 0340 or 0335 ... whatever the 4 digit code is). The reason I asked is i can't find any data for what these readings should be. If the engine was running would tech1 identify which wire was at f...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
Still frustrated with this. Had a good weather day Saturday before last so put the fully charged battery in and did some voltage testing, with the sensor plugged in and unplugged (also with the kerr nelson replacement plugged in but not bolted to the engine). I've since realised I should have taken ...

Re: Prison Break Out at Robsey Gardens..Sad Update.
My sympathies also Rob, we lost our 7yo jack russell in June under similar circumstances over a weekend due to a congenital heart defect. The house seems so empty just now so i know how you and Mandy must be feeling. There's no doubt we'll get another when the time is right, whenever that is, some d...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
My inability to understand this stuff is frustrating. The new sensor arrived today and I still can't get anywhere near a 200ohm lower resistance. I started on the 2k range expecting more than 200 when rubbing metal across it but nothing changed :wall As it is showing 0.01, I would try turning the di...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
Hi David, I think this engine only needed the wires cut for a camshaft sensor modification? i'm 99% sure it's the right one. There are two for the xev in the cambiare catalogue https://cambiare-ve.com/catalogue/?searchType=Vehicle&Make=Vauxhall&Model=Cavalier&Engine=2.0&Year=1995 The...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
Weather and painkillers permitting I'll re test that tomorrow at 200ohms and stick the battery in to do a couple of DC checks. The four 'how to test...' sites i've focussed on say the sensor resistance reading should be anywhere between 200-3000 ohms. Since mine is showing 11.3 can i assume the new ...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
My apologies guys. Taking a step back from being overloaded, re-reading this post helped me understand the method of your teachings a little more, I think  Finally got a dry day to test the sensor. There was a bit of a hiccup with the new test leads, i thought the red one was faulty but it turn...

Thanks for giving me more to worry about guys, you've given me a lot to think about  `I've been looking around the interweb for a dummies guide to testing while waiting on a new lead kit arriving. Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
Thanks guys but all this is over my head these days. I'm still off the road and in the doldrums. I've tried every auto electrician through yell, Thomson local etc. in a 30 mile radius. One wrong number, one no longer in use, three answering machines with no call back and when I finally found someone...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
Thanks for the quick replies. Seen one listed at site below. Is the c20xe same one as x20xev, got to admit knowing practically nothing about these variants of engines, but it does say bosch 0261210030? All the other ones I've seen are out of stock or north of 100 bucks https://www.andersonracingengi...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
Update. i've given up on finding an original siemens/vdo sensor. I called vauxhall, none, called vdo, none. Called the garage, both sensors used were cambiare ( i couldn't find anything negative said about them) and were the correct part number. I paperclipped the car earlier and two codes came up, ...

Re: x20xev crankshaft sensor problems
I tried the bosch number but it seems to fit almost everything except the xev which is frustrating. I've confirmed this using autovaux and another reg no. part checker. I didn't manage the phone calls, it was an off day, It will probably be wednesday now. Time to shut down the seventeen open tabs an...

x20xev crankshaft sensor problems

Re: Over heating?
I've been poring over this for hours because it sounds similar to a problem I had with my last cav. The first thing I would do is change the thermostat. If there's steam it's overheating, that points me to either thermostat stuck closed or temperature sender, as Robsey says, the gauge is just a guid...

Re: I think I upset the company renowned for quick fitting
You are better off going to one of the independent back-street places. I have such a place about 2 miles from where I live. They quite happily fitted my GM original Bosal SRi back box that I had purchased myself - back in 2018. A nominal fitting fee of about £30 left smiles all round. I didn't have...

Re: I think I upset the company renowned for quick fitting
I always believe in speaking as I find, and overall I've had some less than positive experiences with them. However the last time I went there was the day before I was about to go to France, and the wheels on my jag had badly gone out of balance, everywhere else wasn't interested unless I wanted ty...
