Re: Rattle n/s (that's the left over/up here) rear door area

Just a random thought, sometimes the corner trim gussets (small triangular pieces of trim at the back of the rear doors) can start creaking over time, the front ones are notorious for it. A good way to isolate the source of the issue would be to have someone sit in the back while you drive slowly an...

Re: Speeding up the fuel gauge

All three Cavaliers I had always had slow rising needles, I never had a full tank so can't compare the times from memory but I thought it's normal for them to rise slowly, just the way the gauge operates.

Re: Help with shipping Haynes manual and hello from far up n

Hi, I found this on Ebay if it's any good to you? Only one left according to the listing, it's more expensive than UK Cavalier manuals, but the seller ships Worldwide.

Sounds good, and ye, best to keep such things to yourself really, although sometimes it's ok to share your feelings with others.

Not yet, although I'm probably not far off, I've had panic attacks before with heart palpitations while suffering from alcohol withdrawal, that wasn't a nice feeling by any stretch. I don't know what actual cardiac arrest feels like but that wasn't far off.

Personally I don't mind the rain, as I walk everywhere these days I'm used to it, so it doesn't bother me. As far as working on a car though, ye, that is annoying. And ye, I totally agree, I wouldn't be as "anal" nowadays with regard to cleaning components and interiors, age certainly play...

Good work, it's always worth pulling things out and checking underneath as much as possible. I used to keep myself busy doing that sort of thing every other day when I had my first Cav, everyone who knows me will confirm that. Sometimes for no reason at all.

That's right, the early spec unpainted bumpers have a three-tone look to them, top and bottoms black and more grey in the middle sections. Looks nice when buffed up with Back to Black spray.

Re: Tim's 1992 'K' 1.8 GLS auto...

The cam belt snapping isn't a big issue with these engines, there is enough clearance between the valves and pistons so they don't take each other out if the belt goes. Only with the 8v engines.

Good stuff, it's amazing how filthy it gets behind there, as nobody ever cleans that area. The headlight rubber seals are fiddly, it's trial and error, have to fit them onto the metal panel, lower the headlights into place, and while pushing the headlight unit in, pry the seal out bit by bit as you ...

Re: EML Code 45 Oxygen circuit - voltage high (rich mixture)

I'm not sure how it works, but they have an auto-choke system which acts like a normal choke basically, adjusting the fuel/air mixture in different temperatures. I think it's electronically controlled as I said before, so would be down to the ECU.

Re: EML Code 45 Oxygen circuit - voltage high (rich mixture)

That almost sounds like the autochoke not working properly, but don't quote me on that. I think that's probably controlled by the ECU.

Re: EML Code 45 Oxygen circuit - voltage high (rich mixture)

Hmm that is very strange indeed. I think you've covered pretty much everything there, these engines don't have much to go wrong. Short of the ECU having a fault inside it, the only other thing I can think of, IF the C16NZ has the MAP sensor just like the C18NZ, tucked under the scuttle panel flap, i...

Re: Hatch rebuild and transplant

Hi, welcome to the forum. Sounds interesting, we've had a lot of folks here putting in various higher performance engines from Saabs, Astras, etc. I'm no expert by any means, although if I remember rightly, some folks put on Saab brakes as they are larger and more heavy duty than the Cavalier ones. ...

That is very clean for it's age. Means a lot less effort to treat any obvious rust and get it sealed up with a layer of underseal.

Re: The Future of Petrol and Diesel

Diesels should have been banned outright years ago, it's far too late now to reverse the damage made by them. The basic design of the diesel engine is made for heavy industrial use, such as train locomotives, ships, tanks, generators, articulated rig tractors, etc. Not for privately owned cars, it m...

Those black covers are there just for cosmetic purposes really, they don't actually serve a purpose as far as I know, they are split into two pieces, upper and lower. After so many years it's normal for the top half to go brittle and crack/split around the mounting bolt holes.

That is very gunky indeed. Wouldn't help with all that grease and oil on there, it gets right through to the terminals and would definitely reduce performance.

Fair enough, might just be the later models that had them as you say. The mirror covers aren't too difficult as they are smooth, but just takes a bit of practice. But if you can get someone to do them, then bonus.

Yep that was my old beast, was still on the road last time I heard, it went to a member from here up North somewhere. That photo I took at Beaulieu during a Vauxhall day event, all sorts of Vauxhall owners all parked in a field on the museum grounds. That was back in 2014. I'm quite surprised that y...
