Newbie saying hello

Hi,I'm from Hereford and I've just picked myself up another cavalier after a long time without one. In 1999 I bought a white g reg 1600 that got written off a few weeks later in a knock for knock. Then in 2001 I purchased a h reg grey one, again a 1600 that I sold a year later to fund a purchase of a diesel peugeot 405. - I made a profit on this one because a neighbour ran into the back of it when it was parked then after the insurance paid me out I straightened it myself.
For the last couple of years I half fancied another one so have been keeping an eye out for a tidy one. When I had just about given up hope I picked up a stunning un rotten 46k ( allmost one owner from new,- the dealer I bought it off had put it in his name) with 20 odd stamps in the book. It's only a low spec LS but after driving it 100 miles home I've allready fallen for its charms and can remember why I used to love them so much. Hopefully this one will be a keeper.

I'll try and work out how to do it and put a thread up in the projects section, allthougth amazing for its age, it does need a few little jobs doing. I was thinking of doing it up as I allways wanted to do to my old ones when I was a teenager but couldn't afford to, I.e alloys etc however I'm leaning more towards making it totally original .

Sounding good.
What is there not to love about a Cavalier.?
Good simple mechanicals and reliability.

Usually the rust monster that gets them in the end.
(Allowing for bumps and thefts).

Welcome to the forum... We hope you think the site is a keeper too.

Enjoying it immensely thankyou, and thankyou all for the warm welcome. Last year I did buy another vauxhall, a 3.0 v6 tdi vectra but the auto box failed straight away so moved it on. My everyday run around is a 2008 Astra van with rear seat conversion that I've had for 5 years, and this has allready got a little bit of rust setting in. I think over the years I've had every make of car going and the two that I keep comming back to are volvo and vauxhall, I hope to keep this cavalier indefinatley.

Agreed - only had Vauxhalls since 1995.

But how long this will last I don't know.
They don't make Vauxhalls as good or with character like they used to.
The only car that is alleged not to rust is the Vectra-C.

And the electronics makes anything built after 2004 too much of a hassle to fix.

There are a few members on here (including me) who have have kept their Cavaliers for almost all of it's life.
I will be up to 21 years this year.

That's dedication! My vectra c had no rust what so ever, but the sprag clutch had failed. I've got a city and guilds in car repairs but didn't even attempt to drop the box after looking under the bonnet.

Not a quick job..
And not cheap either.

Dual mass flywheel, and I think the clutch swap time is about 7 hours labour.

The wife has a 2005 Vectra with the dreaded 1.9cdti 150.
I am not looking forward to the day when her clutch goes either.
The labour bill is more than the value of the car. - well not far off.

She has had the Vectra for 11 years, so we are a bit of a keeper family.

I've done the clutch/ fly wheel on a 1.9 16v valve but in the astra h. It's even tighter for space under the bonnet. Not the worst car job I've had to do but it's very nearly the worst. A vectra must be a bit more easy to do with its extra space . Lol.
