Time to say hello

Post by Mikebmth »

Hi Guys!!

I have been an Astra addict forsome years and I am also a member over ak MK3oc.com for the Astra Mk3 but since my last one has gone now due to engine failure I am hunting for a new car.

I am reallly tempted as just seen a M reg 2.0 Gls for sale locally with a years ticket on it, not been to visit the cra yet but thought I would register here and find out what to look for as I dont wanna buy a lemon.

Its up for £450 with 12 months ticket on it and a months tax so will be knocking him down a bit now if im right these had the ecotec engine? Are they any good?

Its also a hatch not a saloon which kinda sucks as no Gsi rep which I would love! Is there any decent looking bumper mods etc I could do to make it look better?

I would really appreciate some advice on this one, never owned a mk3 cav. Did once own a mk2 sri 130 though and that was an amazing car to drive.

Mike

pretty much the same as looking at a MK3 astra, look for rust every where, check service history,
when was the cambelt and water pump done last. don't forget it could be an 8V engine.

:wave

watch for the old rust in the usual places astras get it . cav are the same

eco's ? there all right , they have good and bad points good there quite robust bad too many sensor to go wrong and not much of a market to enhance power .

as far as owing a hatch , all the gsi kit fits apart from the rear bumper (its longer) so needs shortening to fit .

I did mine

theres a how to somewhere on the site that i wrote
now running a swedish vauxhall...

Well I bought her:

Vauxhall cavalier 2.0i (8v) Gls with 102,000 on it but runs sweet as a nut and not a spot of rust anywhere!!

Looking forward to slowly sorting a few probs it has as follows:

Leccy aerial wont go up
Driver side window sticks half way down
Want to relocate window switches as in stupid ass position by handbrake???
Little damp as been a little used 2nd car for 2 years and only done 800 miles in the past year

Yep, them window switches are in an odd place...

still catches me out now and again... and I've had the car for 16 years..

Even more confusing if you have the fuel computer switch, which is mounted in-front of the window switches..

Looks a nice car though... and they are damned reliable.. they just run and run and run... as long as they have been serviced appropriately.

Aint got the faintest what they are but I dont like them and they are 14 inch, would of thought Cavs would have come on 15's atleast???

Planning on going to my local breaker who sells second hand alloys and finding some better looking alloys for it as didnt like them in pics before I bought it and doubt they are vauxhall alloys to be honest.

I actually like those alloys. Maybe standard Vauxhall ones, but they look great as 5 spokes. Is it Trent's that you mean by the local breakers yard? They are good, should find something there.

2 Locals huh? Sweet, as opposed to the Astra mk3oc my nearest member who is the local area moderator was in Southampton and meets were in Pompey so :wave

Yes Trents will be getting a visit soon as the robbing c**ts had my astra off me for 75.00 quid with a seized engine but they had my mk4 astra sport alloys with it so think they owe me a deal..lol

My drivers side motor cercuit blew so i had to change the motor,
only had one from an older model so now what should be up makes it go down and what should be down makes it go up....
Really confusing!!!! I shut the window on a copper once trying to open it! LOL
