Door latch freezing!!
Opened the Cav tonight at -4 and door wouldn't close, latch seemed frozen, had to pop the lock down to keep the door closed to get home, was fine by the time I got home, anyone had this as every Cav I've had has done this, anything I can do to stop it happening?
Re: Door latch freezing!!
Abit of grease/wd40 in there should do the job i would of thought.

Strange, I've heard of doors being frozen shut, but not frozen when you go to shut them...
ye, WD-40 is your best bet in that case, it has a very low freezing point and is ideal for frozen locks etc.

Ive had similar with mine. Deadlocked it, then couldnt unlock it because it had frozen. I was so worried about snapping the key or the lock by forcing it, i climbed in through the boot Not my most elegant moment.

I have climbed in previous cavs before and where I live that's calling for the police to arrest you,so best bet is to take the mech out and just grease it to the max,not wanting it to happen again, not a fan of pulling door cards off at -4 and fiddling with the bars when I can't already feel my fingers after a 12 hour shift.
Re: Door latch freezing!!
As said wd40 is a good fix especially with the straw on the can as it gets right into the lock barrel that way ive got through a couple of winters with it

Fill the lock assembly with grease to keep the moisture out, I've not had it on a Cavalier but used to see quite a few omegas do it.

they check the level when it's serviced don't they?"

Pull the lock assembly out, clean it up and regrease it. Best fix you can do. WD40 isn't a permanent solution.

To be a total anorak....
WD40 is a temporary remedy at best.
White grease or petroleum jelly (vaseline) is good to lubricate the lock barrel, and to keep out the moisture.
I mention these, as they are unlikely to stain anything and everything, like normal grease would.
