A major job, or time saving idea?

Post by Martay »

Hi,
I've found a Cav in a local scrappy which has had a front end crash. The rear arches are really good, i mean really clean. The cars only done 70k. I was thinking of cutting the rear arches out to weld into mine to replace my rusty ones. I was thinking of cutting from the sill, all the way around and half way in the wheel well, if that makes any sense! Is this more hassle than either getting mine welded or buying repair panels? He has said i can have both sides for a 10er if i remove them myself.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Id just go and buy 2 repair panels. You could cut them off and find tons of filler in them,.

is the car beyond repair? might be easier to shove your front end panels on it?! aftermarket arch repair panels are cheap and easy enough to get hold of, albeit not a perfect oe fit without a lot of fettling.

Take the rear glass out, cut at the back of the sill, 3-4 inches in
Drill out the spot welds under the glass.
Cut up the inside of the inner arch
Unpick / drill out the welds around the rear light cluster
And cut the panel along the C pillar about 6 inches up. Least you will have enough metal to play with then.

They are fun to use. See if scrappy has one and is willing to cut up the car for you.

Very much doubt theyd have a plasma cutter. Most of the time they'd use oxycetaline to burn it out
