Old garden or garage tools.

Post by iancav6 »

Whats the oldest bit of garden/garage equipment or tools you have that is still in use?

I have a 1963 Landmaster rotorvator that I was given a couple of years ago and still use it on my allotment.

This is it minus the gearbox and blades which I am just servicing

Not really a tool, but my missus still uses her mum and dads old ironing board, which is probably older than your rotovator. She was using the iron too, which was a sixties throwback which I stupidly replaced when the cable frayed instead of replacing the cable.... We can't get anything modern that lasts for more than about 18 months.

I have this old garden tractor...

Image

It's a German built Gutbrod, dated at 1957. It's got a single cylinder moto-sacoshe engine, and still works to this day on a near weekly basis. Cracking piece of kit for use round the yard with small trailer, a lawn scarifier and small towed garden sprayer. Diff lock and everything. Ive had this since i was about twelve lol, They just don't make 'em like they used to!

Also recently aquired this;

It's a Villiers engined "auto gardener" rotovator, brought it cheap in the hope that the plug lead hanging off at the coil is the only thing stopping it from running... Just waiting for payday so I can order a Villiers lead for it. I tried botching one out of an old omega plug lead but seeing as they are made of weird shyte and not a conventional wire in an insulating sleeve I couldn't make it happen :/ again, they just don't make stuff like they used to haha!
Don't eat too many mushrooms... Else you won't have 'mush-room' for anything else!!! Hahahaha

My dad had one of those, I had to take it to work with me when he went on holiday. He could have coped running his business without a mobile but it was a way for him to spend half the day in the pub without his customers realising.
